Just got home from Walmart. They were putting out the school supplies as I shopped.
Crayola 10 pack markers $1 (both thin and thick kinds)
    Crayola 24 crayon $0.25
Crayola colored pencils $1 (not sure how many per box)

and yes composition books for a quarter (in case you didn't read about them on the staples thread)

Since I'm one of those who has to buy all supplies, I love these deals

    I hate that place.

Not Walmart in general, just the one closest to me.

MM, if you do go back:
I saw some wonderfully soft fleece throws for $5 apiece!! They make GREAT Christmas gifts for teachers!!

(Nope, didn't buy any. Kira is getting a teacher who already had both Julia and Brian, and Julia is getting one of 2-- one of them has already gotten a fleece throw from my familly on a past Christmas.)

Oh how I love those deals! Since I don't have a classroom there's no need to go that section of wal-Mart.

Around Christmas they had Christmas themed throws for $5 and regular ones for $2!

NYC doesn't...I'd have to drive two hours to get to one, and I don't drive at all! I doubt I'll find anyone willing to make the trip with me.

The two closest to me are so nasty that I would often skip sales rather than go, but I found one just 20 or so minutes down the freeway that is very nice. Luckily I am able to go again. YAY

Hmm, I thought I saw one in Brooklyn the last time I was there...maybe it was a Target?

It must have been a Target, we have plenty of those, and I make good use of them. But they're sales don't tend to be nearly as good as the Walmart sales are.

Tried that. They don't have the in store sales. I'm looking into having some friends who live outside the city go for me, and bring them when they're coming in anyhow. No responses yet, but I'm hoping I'll get some-I'm desperate! As of now, I have a total of $150 to spend on everything I need for my room-from supplies to toys, furniture to books...

I just called one of my local Wal-Marts (we have 5), and my contact said that they are just getting stuff set up, but the sales haven't started here yet.

Oh I can't think about this yet - we just got out of school on June 23rd, had 6 days off, and are now in the extended school year program! :dizzy: But thanks!:

I am almost exactly half way between the two wal-marts here. One is about 3 minutes farther than the other, but its newer, less crowded, and generally less annoying. Plus, one of our favorite parks is on the way there, so often we'll swing by the park for an hour or so, then head on to wal-mart, then come home. It works.

Walmarts are so different from place to place. We have two by me that are totally nice and fine. The one by my parents is awful. It never feels clean and the salespeople are never helpful. The salespeople at both of mine are wonderful.

I would never have thought that! Out in the sticks where I live, we are so used to not having much for shopping that I never considered that we would have something so convienent that the Big Apple didn't!! Whoa, I am amazed!!

Hopefully our Supercenter will be getting those sales soon -- I really want those darn comp books! And once we move to the town where I'lll be teaching, they have a tiny, tiny Walmart so I don't know how much they'll have of anything.

Aliceacc-I don't drive, so LI doesn't really help me. If I drove, I'd go visit my friends who live in those areas, and save myself the hassle of trying to get someone to go for me.

Our WalMart had all the boxes out in the aisles. I got "in trouble" for starting to pick through the stacks. (The girl was laughing but said I couldn't open boxes on my own. lol)

Just got back from WalMart. I got 20 composition books for $5. I saw plastic prong folders for $.75, but I'm hoping they will get cheaper. Also, spiral notebooks are $.50, but I remember them getting to $.05 last year!

I can't find the sales at Wal-Mart here yet. I'm anxious for the sales to get here, though.

I just came from Walmart. I got some crayons for a quarter along with some composition books. Markers and color pencils were also on sale for a dollar. Pretty happy!

I was hoping they would, because it seems like last year a lot of things got progressively cheaper as it got closer to school time. They may not now due to the economy, though.

Hmmmm 15 cents.... I might have to bite the bullet on that. I was hoping for 5 or 10 cents, but I don't want to risk it.
