Yes, everytime I see the crayon prices I get excited, I'm buying 5 boxes each time I get there and I'm going to save them to give to each child at Christmas. Plus some extras for the classroom as well.

Our Staples is getting low on the one cent items (I'm in NY right now) and the next truck doesn't come until Wednesday. But I went to Wal-mart tonight and the cashier there said if you bring in the Staples ad you can get folders at Wal-mart for 1 penny each also since they are identical products and Staples is a competitor.

I'm in a tiny little town near the PA border - I can actually get to the PA Wal-mart quicker than I can the NY one, but the NY one always has more school stuff. Right now I'm actually up in the hills "stealing" wireless internet from the people across the street:) There are probably more deer than people near me:D Our Wal-mart is right across the street from our Staples.

    No pocket charts! :(

I have been reading this thread about the Walmart sale, and have to report that I have had no luck finding pocket charts there. I have been to 3 different WalMarts in the last 2 days. I am going to try one more tomorrow. In most of the stores the "teacher" section was rather small. Oh well -- boo hoo hoo! :(

jhamm, I searched, too. I know we had tax free shopping close to Christmas, after the hurricanes, but I can't find if we're having one before school.

I went to Staples yesterday. I got 30 folders (3kids + 2 teachers; we'll go through them!) 3 packs of pencils for a total of $0.33. No one there could point me towards the pencil shapeners, in spite of the fact that there were 6 customers requesting them.

Then I found and bought a gorgeous $100 briefcase!!!

    So much for saving money!!

What part of Florida are you in? I'm in Jacksonville and can't find them at Walmart either. I think it is a Florida thing!

I love the idea of buying extra to give out at Christmas. I will have to do that this year.

Why don't you talk to the store manager and see if he/she will order them for you. Tell him/her that you will phone other teachers from your school and have them come in and buy some too!

I got my 2 pocket charts at Walmart today. The shelf had the price of $6.88 and it rang up as $9.97. They changed the price on the shelf after I got mine for $6.88 :).

Just another reason businesses are packing up and moving out!! I use our school's tax free number for ALL school purchases. Make sure to get permission first and keep your receipts. I wouldn't use it for an Ipod:)

    Brandigilliard,

I'm in central Florida - but I lucked out and found a WalMart today with the pocket charts -- and lots of other stuff! I got 3 tabletop pocket charts (YES!), 2 math games, and a few odds and ends. I was very very excited (and got over the fact that Staples had run out of all the 1 cent items!) :)

I don't think my Walmart even has a teacher section. I was there yesterday and the only thing I could find on sale was pencil boxes. I don't remember last year there being a special back to school section either. Not like the one at Target!

I went to Office Depot yesterday and they won't let you get more than 5 boxes of crayons. I dont' think it is worth the gas to go back. So I am thinking of just buying the rest of what I need at Walmart. I also went to Staples yesterday and they were out of the 1cent items but they said they would get a truck later that night.

That would be a great suggestion, but I will be teaching in Mississippi. I don't know any teachers here in Florida. I might do it anyways if I can't find any. I wonder why some Walmarts carry different things.

I am just looking for supplies for the beginning of the year. Most of my students won't come with supplies at the beginning of the year. The school won't provide them for the students either. And let me tell you it is really hard to do pasteing papers with 5 glue sticks for the entire class. It is really sad so I am trying to stock up on all the cheap stuff now because I hate buying them after school starts. The prices sky rocket then.

Thanks for the advice, but I can't stand any other crayon. Crayola works the best!! I will look into the site for other things though. I might do a store this year. Thanks for the websites!!

I remember my WalMart in another city, and they always put the "seasonal" items in a out of the way place. For example, I thought they were late on Christmas items, but they were back by the garden-plant area due to of lack of room, it was a smaller Wal Mart. Just a thought.

with Crayola 24 crayon packs for .20, or 2 glue sticks for .20 you can spend less than $10 and stock up for your entire class at Walmart.

They have this back room that they usually use for things like that, but it still has BBQ stuff in it. I have to go back today to return some shorts and get more pencil boxes and I'll look more closely.

I am so exited! I went to a different Walmart today and I found the tabletop pocket charts for $6.88. I couldn't figure out how many to buy, so I bought 4 of them. I figure if I decide later on that I don't want them all that I could find a teacher at school who would like to buy my extras.

    proud,

What area were the tabletop pocket charts in. The wal-mart here had pocket charts for 6.88 but they were the regular large ones. I would love to have a couple of the tabletop ones for my centers area.

When you all say "tabletop pocket charts," do you mean smaller size ones? Do they come with a stand? How big are these charts?

Don't know Upsadaisy; I was there for something else, and of course I had to go look! They had a lot of supplies and the spirals were organized like they usually do their sales.

This pocket chart is called "Self-Standing Pocket Chart". It is almost 11 X 12. It is made by the same company as the large pocket charts (Active Minds) You put it on a table and can use it when working with small groups, individual students, in a center, during circle time.... You have a choice between 2 free activities that come with them. There is an alphabet one with 80 colorful cards that have letters, sight words and objects on them and there is also a number one with 80 colorful cards that have numbers, objects and number words on them. Other than the activities the table top pocket charts are the same.
