We use the FrontRow system, though I don't know how available that is for individual purchase (never looked into it).

If you have any flexibility in arranging the room, walking around the classroom is important not solely because of them being able to hear you, but as a vital classroom management technique as well as a way to be constantly observing how your students are doing on their work.

    EXCELLENT IDEA!
It's frustrating trying to talk over students who REFUSE TO SHUT-UP while the teacher is talking. It permits those who want to listen, to hear, without you having to stop and constantly remind the incessant chatterers that it's your turn to speak. :yeahthat:

Err... not the best idea to just talk over those who are choosing to talk in the background. Might as well give them the permission to do whatever they want! My assumption is that the OP is wanting to be able to make it so that the back row can hear well enough (because sound dissipates further away), even if they aren't always walking between the front and the back.

I agree that that would be the PRINCIPAL PURPOSE for using an amplifier:D

All of our classrooms have audio systems built in. I wear a small microphone around my neck. There is also a regular hand-held one for kids to use. I don't have to strain my voice to talk loudly enough to be heard clearly from anywhere in the room. There are four speakers mounted in the ceiling.

I don't, however, talk over anyone.

That's exceptional that all schools are equipped with audio systems, what about cams?
And, what about the older schools built 50-75 years ago, do they have them too?

We don't have any schools that old. The oldest opened in maybe 1970. The newest opened a couple of years ago. All classrooms have audio systems, SmartBoards, and WiFi. We don't have cameras in our rooms, but they are in the hallways. One of my friends has cameras in her alternative school classroom.

I would love to have a loud system in my room. My voice tends to get strained from doing a lot of read alouds. I do drink tea with honey and lemon. I use cough drops and drink a lot of water. I've looked into sound systems, but they all seemed too expensive or hard to install. The plug and play one sounds perfect though!

38 students also sounds like a nightmare. We have pretty small numbers this year. Some of my coworkers have classes of 14 this year! We have a very old school with small classrooms where 30 desks is the upper limit that will fit. I can't imagine trying to get a group this size to quiet down and listen. I think the sound system would make it easier for them to hear. It is hard to always project your voice so much. Oh my, and for every class? I'm going to look around for sound systems myself. Thanks for posting.

You can purchase a MINI VOICE AMPLIFIER for under $100 on Ebay.

Thanks, DAH! I'm going to look that up. Honestly, my voice does carry a bit, but I feel like as I get older, it is easier to strain. I completely lost it for a few days last year. I'm sure some were pretty happy about that!

To NewTeacher2016, we've been there with the cuts, but also had people leave the area. I had a class last year of 30 that was bursting at the seams last year. However, I also had one of 30 that was lovely. You never know!

I actually did have a big class of 40 my first year, but that was in a special area. Plus, we had a huge room and the students were juniors and seniors.
