I love the activity where the questions ask if you would find a [insert unfamiliar vocabulary word here] in a [insert familiar word here]? For example: "Would you find a mammal sitting on an egg?" (let's just assume no mammals lay eggs for this example} where "mammal" would be the new vocab word (again, let's assume the kiddos don't know this word). In order to answer, they need to research 'mammal.' OR, "Would I find the Eiffel Tower in London?" Things like that. How can I find these types of sheets? I don't know what to call them in my search parameters which would lead me directly to them. I want to Google or try TPT.
Great idea. Got these from http://www.giftedguru.com/21_ideas_for_teaching_vocabulary/ You may be able to look for more ideas here or follow some of the links to find what you are looking for. IDEA #3: Making Choices Students show their understanding of vocabulary by saying the word when it applies or remaining silent when it doesn’t. For example: “Say radiant if any of these things would make someone look radiant.” -Winning a million dollars. -Earning a gold medal. -Walking to the post office. -Cleaning your room. -Having a picture you painted hung in the school library. (This idea is from the book Bringing Words to Life, recommended in the books section.)
