One of my groups earned a video as an end-of-year treat. It can't be straight educational because it's supposed to be JUST a treat. Looking for something wholesome/inspirational but also fun for 11-12 year old boys. Needs to be VERY appropriate, no romance (maybe ok if verrrry light and not a big part of the plot), no crude language. (this is a boys-only religious school, very sensitive). Approximately 45 minutes would be ideal. It's ok if it's longer, though.

    Seen anything good lately?

Did you ever Black Stallion? It's intense and beautiful. The funny thing is that much of it has no dialogue - the boy and horse are on a deserted island. But, it did keep my kids' attention.

Would it appeal to the preadolescent boy set, though? I'd love it but we tend to have very different tastes, my students and me ;)

The Color of Friendship, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Prince of Egypt. All clean and very entertaining for 11-12 year olds. All of these are full length movies (90 minutes or so).

I have shown Bridge to Terabithia, and I'm surprised how many boys like that movie even though it is a favorite with the girls.

I didn't know if the Black Stallion would appeal, but it did. The beginning has a bit of terror as the ship begins to sink, and the rest is challenging in the "could I ever do this?" kind of way. The main character is a boy.
