I'm getting very discouraged after going to another job fair. There are so many applicants for elementary ed. and very few positions in this state. If there are positions, they usually are filled internally. I have my foot in the door at one district because I'm a building substitute teaching position at one school (I'm there everyday and just found out what class I'll be in when I go in that morning). But, there doesn't seem to be any positions available. I'm hoping that more positions will open up when the school board meets at the end of this month. I've also heard that many teachers are hired in August. Ugh...I just needed to vent! I changed fields to teaching and have a Masters in Elementary Education so it's really discouraging! I'm thinking about getting another certification (maybe special ed) to make myself more marketable, but that's a really popular area now too!
Teacherella you are not alone. As you can tell by other threads "Still Waiting", it is a very frustrating process. I myself have been to a jobfair, applied to every available position open to me, walked into buildings to deliver my mini-portfolios, and have emailed follow-up letters to principals. I have no connections what-so-ever in the districts that I have applied. I hope that I have a chance because the positions are still posted, but am frustrated by the lack of response so far. My greatest hope is that all of us have a position in a school we desire by fall, hopefully sooner. I have seen how much time and effort many of us have put into this process. I do believe that the effort will yield desired results.
I got hired in the middle of August last year...so there is hope. In my state teachers do not have to sign their contract until July. Some teachers search for other jobs up until then. Good Luck!
Yes, there is always hope. There are several openings I just saw on the sites over here in georgia looking for teachers. Hopefully things will start to fall into place
Don't give up hope. This time last year, I was freaking out worse than you are. (I'm not sure if threads that old are archived, but we could back you would see evidence of my vents). I made myself crazy ALL summer, and I actually got hired a week and 3 days before the first day of school. It was very stressful, but finally landing a job was incredible. It will happen! Keep trying!
MMRbella - would you mind PMing me? I live in the same state as you and I'm curious what your experiences were with certain districts. Thanks!
It is very discouraging, Teacherella; there are just way too many good teachers in certain parts of the country. In a way I'm lucky, because I can move if I don't find something around here (although I would prefer to stay).
Teacherella, I am also in Ohio. I got a job in August. However, due to a reduction in force...I'm looking for a job again this year. You're doing everything right and hopefully the phone will start ringing soon! Especially in the district where you are a building sub!
