We have had a "family plan" for years and years. We have 2 phones and after taxes and fees and government surcharges the bill comes to close to $100.00 a month.

We hardly ever use the phones as hubby and I both work within 2 miles of the house. We don't text.

We do have 3 small children and I wouldn't feel comfortable not having a phone.

Does anyone have a verizon prepay phone? What do you think of it?

Verizon gives 19% off your monthly bill for teachers! Make sure you are getting your discount! I saw the flyer in the faculty room in a building I was subbing in like 5 years ago and it has paid off!

I use Sprint's prepaid phone, Boost Mobile, and I'm very happy with it.

If you use it mainly for emergencies and you don't have teenagers, I would try a prepaid. I was paying 80 bucks a month and hardly using it. I now pay about 20 and it usually lasts me about 2-3 months. But if you give out your number a lot, then it might end up costing you more. Only my spouse and kids had my #. I don't think I would ever go back to contract or monthly charges.
