Hi I am new to this group and I just took the VCLA for the first time today. My raw score for reading was 61% and writing 65% I know this is not passing however; whatever points I receive do I keep them when I retake the test or do I start over. I have to pass this test by the end of August in order for me to apply to gate 3 student teaching. I would appreciate whatever advice, help you can give thanks.

You keep whatever is the highest score. There are multiple threads on the VCLA in the forum, or you might be able to get the attention of @TeacherGroupie, who is the resident specialist in all matters of testing. Best of luck.

As vickilyn has said, one's highest score is one's score of record: going forward, Tiffany Keys, you can't possibly ever officially show less than 61% in reading and 65% in writing. But none of the raw points you earned to reach that 61% in reading will transfer over to a later administration of the test.

Do you now have a better feel for what each part of VCLA demands and for what you need to do before your next test date to ensure that you can rise to those demands?

Hi so I’m also new. I’m taking the VCLA reading on Saturday for the first time... I’m a very anxious person (massive anxiety and panic disorder). I do have the accommodations so will be getting extended time. But I’m just super worried about failing. My school did some review sessions once a week before the pandemic happened and I went to that. But they went at a fast pace. I also have just been doing random practice questions online. And have been doing okay. (Getting like 70ish% on it. Hoping to be a math teacher soo I’m always thinking mathematically) Do you think I should be fine and that I’m just having my anxiety get to me?

English is my second language. I understand you. The question formats are similar to the two practice tests in official website. They were really helpful for me.

You will pass ! Good Luck !
