Less than 2 weeks until the day-any of you have any gifts planned? I'm working on art for our bedroom as a physical gift-I wanted to do several canvases with words/phrases of love, and I loved the suggestion of doing 'Love' in different languages. I'll be working on that over the next week or so. But I'd like to do something a bit more. I'm watching the Bachelor right now (I heart Hulu), and I see they visited a fortune cookie factory and wrote their own fortunes. I wonder if anyone can do that, or if it was just for the show. Either way, I could always slip fortunes into cookies-what can I do with this idea? I'm thinking of cryptic messages for an entire day of fun events, but what kind of events? I'm going to have to think on this for a while. Anyone else doing anything for their SO?
You can definitely make your own fortune cookies - I know you can find the recipe online, or it is in my Betty Crocker cookie cookbook. BF and I like to do cheesy instead of serious for Vday. We basically have a contest to find the corniest thing for the other person. I am looking at some tee shirts on thinkgeek.com that light up when you get close to the other person, but I dont know yet.
We usually do a romantic dinner- last year it was Mediterranean in front of our fireplace...pitas, tabouli, hummus, roasted veg... I've been particularly crafty of late...inspired by several blogs I've discovered. I've decorated our mantle with 'Love' and 'X O' spelled out in different fonts, one letter per frame (Frames from Dollar Store with beautiful scrapbooking paper behind fonts...I'm going to change out seasonally/holidays...Planning on 'Lucky' with green scrapbooking paper for St. Pat's)...Silk red roses, cherubs, candles...So romantic and lovely...I've also made some woven felt hearts...so cute cute cute...Other heart shaped frames scattered about with pix of our family thorugh the years...Kind of an ode to love and my family... DH has been on the healthy track since New Years...down 20 pounds so dinner will be uber healthy...vegetarian inspired, maybe...All his clothes are too big on him so I'm thinking some great new shirt for work and a snazzy tie...he's feeling so good about himself- that's sexy! Maybe some tix to a sporting event...Maybe the Jersey Devils (hockey)...goes with the red theme! I have off the whole week after V Day (winter break) so we'll find a day for a fun field trip or romantic lunch or movie that week...
I am not sure when we will be moving into our new house but maybe I will plan something romantic -we can stay there for the first night or something, if we haven't already.
We always have gone right to our new house after closing- before the furniture comes...bring a picnic basket, spread a cloth on the floor, some candles...very fun. (We've owned 3 houses in 3 different states over the years!)
I thought we would do that too but I think that the house was so hideous we just wanted to get right into painting! lol
Last year I downloaded some love songs to my hubbie's ipod. I listed them in a Valentine Card for him. It went over well.
Love this idea..I'm a bit (a lot) tech challenged...I'll find some songs and have my son do the ipod downloading thing for me....
What a cute, but cheap, idea! We don't really do anything different. We do fun, lovey stuff all year when we can and when we aren't annoyed with each other! It's just another day to us, really. We do plan to go out that Sunday to a yummy Indian restaurant, just like we do every Sunday. Hee hee...
