Help give me vacation ideas! :D I just might be planning a vacation for early June. I'm in southern CA. Here's my wants:

    - As low cost as possible
    - Would be nice to be out of state, so I'd fly
    - 3 or 4 days long
    - I love upscale shopping areas, unique places to walk around, museums, no bars/clubs
    - possibly a nice, live performing arts theatre to see a musical &/or a place where they held a pro tennis match.

Chicago! We have Michigan Ave for shopping, amazing museums, nice theater, etc. Also, I think it is a very friendly city.

In June it will actually be nice out, although with this winter I am starting to feel like I will never know nice weather again:)

Low cost but you want to fly and go to upscale shopping areas?

Maybe she didn't mean actually buying anything at the upscale shopping areas? Just looking?

I agree with the suggestion of Chicago. It's a great city with tons to do.

This might sound silly, but my hoosband and I really love going to St. Louis. It's one of our favorite vacation destinations. I love the downtown area by the Arch. There are nice shopping areas in other parts of town.

Vegas is always an option, too.

Thanks guys! I've actually always wanted to go to Chicago, so that may be a nice idea. And I wanted to clarify, when I saw low cost, I mean within reason, like I won't be staying in any seedy motel or anything. Always a nice hotel, but it doesn't have to be the Ritz Carlton. I tend to choose 4 star hotels at the least.

While Vegas is usually good, I've been 3x before & did kind of what to go somewhere I've never been.

Seattle. Beautiful city, tons of shopping and hotels, close enough to you to justify only 3 or 4 days, museums, attractions, restaurants with spectacular mountains and nature a short drive away.

I was going to suggest Seattle, or even Vancouver.

We have close friends in Indianapolis and usually spend some time there each summer. It's got a great downtown, museums, and sports events. Good shopping, too!

Thanks guys. Oh, the place would be great if it had a nice, live performing arts theatre to see a musical &/or a place where they held a pro tennis match.

Toronto has everything you are looking for, but the Rogers Cup isn't until early August.

Jersey Shore/NYC might be a good trip - there's theaters in south/central jersey that put on some good shows - The Count Basie, The Strand, The Papermill Playhouse in Northern NJ.

Then of course, there's Broadway, then you'd have to go into the city for that.

For live performing arts, go to Ashland, OR for the Shakespeare Festival.

I *loved* visiting Chicago, St. Louis, and Seattle, too! Any of those would be a good choice!

If it's only 3 or 4 days, I think I agree with Jerseygirlteach about Seattle. It's close enough to SoCal to have less travel time, but it's a beautiful city with spectacular surrounding areas. I think with that time frame, some of the other choices are pretty far. I did love Chicago though. And NYC would be a great option! That 3 hour time difference does make things tricky, though. You're basically losing most of a day to travel on either end from CA.
