My sixth grade teacher retired when she was in her seventies. I don't remember her ever being anywhere except behind her desk, and she taught for about twenty years after I had her. I don't imagine that got better!

My mother used to sing me the song "Swingin' on a Star" (which I think was a top 40 song back in the 1940's) :D and there is a line in there about taking home moonbeams in a jar. I always loved the song, and sang it to my own kids.

Jaime, would that have been the Bionic Woman with Lindsey Wagner?:p I remember watching that show. It was a spinoff from the 6 million dollar man.

My parents named me Denise on my birth certificate, then named me Dzenna, a Russian name, at my Christening to be used in a Russian church. Aside from my family a handful of people, no one knows me as Dzenna.

I used to own a small advertising agency called Golden Opportunities. Thus, the name GoOpp, which changed to goopp when programs started not requiring you use caps anymore. I've used if for so long, I'd hate to change it. I use it for everything, including my email address, and no one ever forgets it.

My dad always laughs when he gets a greeting card from me, since I sign it "Ellen A" and he thinks it is silly.

When I first got married, none of my students could say my new last name (darn those Polish names!). I shortened it to "Mrs. W", but even that was too many syllables.....so now it's just Mrs. Dub! :D

BTW, this is one of the best threads in a while....Thanks Toddteach1 for asking such a fun question!

In high school, someone thought Weno was my last name spelled backwards. (It isn't) The nickname stuck, though. :)
I play the piano and there are 88 keys on the keyboard.

I am not one of your sit-at-a-desk-and-listen kind of kids, and now I am in college and I feel like I'll be there forever, thus I am Bored Of [my own] Ed. However I am not and do not anticipate ever being bored of being an educator!

(Minerva, I also wondered if you meant McGonagall when I first saw you! She is one of my favorite characters! I was thinking of signing on as Snape, but didn't because I am not a strict/mean teacher yet!)

mine is because my mom has always said I was born to teach. I would take rope and wrap my brother around a chair so he couldn't move and just read books and try to teach him things I knew. I was only six so I have no clue what I was teaching him. :) The 84 stands for the year I was born. :)

Mine is a nickname my stepmother's father gave me - my dad calls me katrina (my name is katlynn - cat-lynn, not katelynn), and gpa gave me katrinkit. Usually I add 35 - it's my name for everything, but I didn't have to use numbers here!

When I was a child our landlord was an older gentleman who was blind. I would always go and make shopping lists for him, read his mail to him, and read him poetry. He was an avid CB'er and would sometimes help me talk to his buddies on the air. He gave me the CB title "Angel Eyes" because I was there to help him with some things he couldn't do. He always made me feel special--just like I want to do for my students...

My name is Kelly and a friend of my started calling me Kelster a couple of years ago and it just stuck. I was gonna go with kelmck, the first 3 letters of my first name and the last three letters of my last name, but Kelster is much more fun.
