Haha- I will still jump when they say jump I figure until the first day (August 5th ), I will continue to explore some select options...
WOOOOHOOOOOO! Ohhhh yaaay!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for YOU!!!!!!!!! This is the best news! @@@@@@@(((((( HAPPY DANCE ))))))@@@@@@@
Can't wait to read the details when you get them; what grade, the school hours, salary & benefits, etc.
My demo called and rejected me. Not surprised at all! They had 4 people demo for 1 position- a lot IMO. They went with their student teacher. Something tells me that I could have rocked it and it still would have went to her.... The "R" school called again AND emailed. I missed their call again. But that is persistent...
Just in case you didn't know how much of a celebrity you've become on here, your updating thread has over 2,000 more views than the jobs list thread
I'm in favor of that! I'm still thinking about R. I like the idea of being out of the classroom and working with small groups! Uggh! I may go on the interview...
I went into P to meet with someone (I don't know his title) about the staff development. My initials were on the board next to 5th grade. I'm pretty heartbroken right now- I don't want to teach 5th. ESPECIALLY inner city- I don't feel like my classroom management would be good enough. I never had problems in 5th before, but there were times I was borderline out of patience. I'm not sure I could handle it. The other teacher that was there knew what grade she was teaching and there are initials on the board next to every grade level. Should I call them and see if it can be switched? I'm seriously about to bust into tears. I called R back and accepted an interview for Monday. I wish I would have went to Q today.
Hopefully you will hear from the P about switching soon. Worst case scenario, if they don't want to switch you from 5th, would you still take the job?
House update! Note: to walk away even, I have to sell for $116,000. I was asking $129,000. Neighbor with identical floorplan asked $135,000. Neighbor sold for $129,000 within 3 weeks. My garage was converted into a room, which has caused people to pass on my house. We dropped the price to $125,000 and have been getting very positive feedback lately. They all say that they just started looking or aren't sure exactly which town they want to buy in, but may come back. I received an offer. This buyer is out of their mind! The offered $120,000, with me paying $5,000 in closing costs AND leaving my refrigerator, washer, and dryer! They've lost their mind! That means I'd net -$1,000 and not even have my washer and dryer- which I will need in a new apartment!! We countered- $126,000 with me paying $5,000 in closing costs. They can have the refrigerator, I keep the washer and dryer. This will give me about $5,000 net profit.
Wow, where I live your house would've had multiple offers within a day! It's a seller's market here. Hopefully the buyer comes up or accepts your counter!
When I bought my house, it was appraised at $148,000. The market has taken a pretty big hit here. The million dollar houses are trying to get 600K.
The house down the street from me just sold for $20k OVER the asking price! They had four offers on the first day! My house was on the market for one day before we put in an offer and we still almost ended up with a bidding war. Hoping your market picks up like ours has!
I don't think it would hurt to ask about switching. They probably just put you there because you have the most experience in 5th.
That's how it is here too! My parents bought there 2000 sq ft home in 2011 for under 150k... Now there are 2 houses for sale in my neighborhood for 235k and 240k!! It's insane because both had multiple offers! Of course this is all bad news for me since I've been wanting to buy a house for the past 2 years. My approval was for 105k, which will get me a small house in the worst parts of town.
We had to do a short sale when we left Idaho. The market was so bad that our house was worth less than what we owed. We owed about $146,000 and it sold by short sale for about $83,000. Luckily we didn't have to pay back the extra or get taxed on it. I think being in the military helped us get the short sale.
I owe $107,000 but with commissions and whatnot, I'd have to sell for $116,000. A fellow teacher's house sold in a day. She listed it 3 weeks after me. But she has a garage Our housing market is just now starting to move. If I would have tried to sell it 1-2 years ago, I would have had to do a short sale.
FWIW- The $125,000 mark is pretty much the cheapest you can get in my area unless you live in a trailer. I live about 3 miles from the next county  When I was looking, $150,000 was the minimum. A few years ago it was $110,000, so the market is heading back.
Sorry to hear you may get a grade you don't want. For what it's worth I teach 5th and I think it's pretty fabulous . Not inner city, but a very diverse title 1 school. My hubby taught in the city in a K-8 school and when he had to cover for other classes due to no subs he said 1-3 was always the worst behaved and he minded doing the coverage the least when he had K or 5-6 (he taught 7 and 8). Anyways, can 5th be rough? For sure. Can it also be awesome? For sure
Oh- I taught fifth for five and a half years. I know them well. I just really, really like the younger kids better. I'm trying to look at it positively- I recently read the Book Whisperer, so I'm excited to try some of that stuff out. That is my (only) plus side. However, I'm not sure if the school will have a library..... (at least at first)
Hmm... Is there any way that you can request a lower grade level? If there are only 2 teachers so far, I don't see why they wouldn't place you in the spot that you would like to be in? I think it's worth a shot! Maybe you could gather some materials together for a specific grade and ask to meet with the P. show them that you have some good ideas and a desire (you've already proven that to us!!) and see what they say. Good luck!!!
I've showed them some lesson plans and data from 2nd grade. As far as teachers- I'm not sure how many they've contacted and offered positions to. They said they were looking at two teachers per grade level. Right now, there are 2 sets of initials next to every grade level but 5 and K. My initials are the only ones next to 5. So they may have called them all already...
I didn't realize you had done 5th for that long, so clearly you already know the pros and cons of the grade. As I said in your other post, glad they are considering switching you. I think it's neat how us elementary teachers do feel we're better fits for various grades for various reasons. Hopefully you'll hear back soon if they're able to switch you.
My realtor just sent my counter offer in and let the other realtor know that I am firm. She is getting it for $8,000 less than the house down the street that was identical except for the garage. I really wish I had 8K, because I know the conversion would have been less than that!
As for the house, we are bickering over due diligence fees and how long until closing. They want $0 due diligence and 45 days. we asked $500 due diligence and 30 days. Last counter was $200 and 30 days. Haven't heard back yet!
