    Last day is here :woot:

I feel really bad for my coworkers. The teacher that teamed with me and was moved to 4th is taking over for me. She has to move her things for the second time in 2 weeks. The original 4th grade teacher quit which is why they split the class to have him. So I imagine he'll be quitting for good in a matter of days. (4th grade had 9 kids suspended for fighting the other day out of both rooms- imagine them all in one!) Everyone is fed up- even those who were supportive before. I can't imagine people sticking around for long. I bet they're all gone by Christmas.

    I survived. Barely.
In the afternoon, I told them. Then, I was like a bad sub. They played on their laptops for at least an hour (could have been closer to 90 minutes) while I graded the few things I collected today. There were also some issues with my background check. The sub company lost it. I had to call a bunch of people, so I did it while the kids were on their laptops  I have no planning period and it had to be taken care of ASAP. I couldn't start the LTS until it was done, so I did it during my day. I figured- what are they going to do - fire me?

Apparently one fed up teacher mentioned the low morale. The P was flabbergasted and didn't know why. Apparently the teacher was extremely honest. I'm like- how can you NOT know?!?!?!

So glad you got out of that mess. Having no planning period during such a long day is just bad practice. Good luck in your new position.

Hopefully everyone who wants out at that terrible location will have the same good fortune that you are experiencing...now we need to get you into a high enough paying position that you can get a home for yourself.

I'm sad for the teachers like you who walked into this thinking it would be a positive change for the students and the community. Every new school has bumps in the road, but this P sound like she is ignoring them. She is in for some rude awakenings.

After all the issues I had Friday, I got my AESOP log in yesterday. No jobs  I will really have to get on some preferred lists.

I would not have signed up for a job in advance anyway because you never know when this baby will come!
However this morning, I did get a phone call. It was a high school in the outskirts of the city. I'm 100% OK with subbing high school, and I'm 100% OK with subbing in the elementary schools in that district, but as my FIRST day back in the land of subbing in over 7 years, I decided to pass on it. I got another call, but someone snatched the job before the automated guy could even say it. Oh well. I have the day off.

I had said to myself last night that I'd pass on any high schools OR middle schools as my first job unless they were in my hometown. I feel like I'm being a baby about it, but I just want my FIRST job to be in elementary. I'm totally capable of teaching high school- I quite enjoyed it when I subbed. I would love subbing math back then and I got called for it a lot because I could actually TEACH it. Well, except for Calculus. (I didn't take math my senior year because I was co-op. Biggest mistake of my academic career. I took it in college with a Chinese professor. I know nothing about Calculus. The language barrier was too much. :dizzy:)

Once I have to go day to day subbing, I'm hoping to avoid high schools for the simple fact that they are not going to help me get a permanent job! I am certified math and social studies
6-8, so middle schools could be helpful. I prefer grades 1-3, but I would teach middle school. Preferably math. Now, if it comes down to a day without pay vs a high school, I will be in a high school! I'm just hoping to make that an exception.

Now, I have the day off to take care of the mess with my house. (The other reason I didn't jump at the HS job.)

Took it. May cancel it later, but I will be sure to do it early- by 6. I've got to think about this.

It is at my favorite elementary- the one I went to and my grandma went to when it was a high school. I know the P- I graduated with his daughter. He just switched buildings this year. His old building was super small and hard to get a sub job in back in the day.

Yup. 1st grade, but I don't know the teacher.

I think I will text the pregnant teacher and let her know. As long as I know by 6 AM or so, I can cancel without issues.
I just don't want to have to cancel last minute and it look bad!

AESOP drives me crazy! I'm so glad I ended up getting a job for this school year rather than having to deal with that nonsense -_-. I hope you get on preferred sub lists OR that a job comes out of your LTS :)

Also I totally don't blame you for taking a day...as you said, you need to fix the nonsense with your house and I think after what you've been through you deserve it.

I'm tired. The teacher is not as organized as she made herself out to be. I had some issues following her plans- I was confused!
I had a group of boys that did not get along.
Other than that, a pretty good day. WAY better than what I'm used to.
Tomorrow should be 100x better. I know what I will be teaching! The kids will also know to expect me.

The staff is great! I knew that, but they exceeded my expectations. P came by before school, twice during the day, and again after school. He is treating me 100% like the regular staff- I will have my own email by Friday, I will participate in PLCs, I will be observed, etc... I actually like the super hands on- the more he can see me in the classroom teaching the better chance I have of landing a job there next year! Or at least get a great recommendation from him.
