I have applied many times to our district HR but no luck and I am wondering how to improve my resume.I'd very grateful if you could give me some suggestions. I am subbing as much as I can to get noticed in our district but I am barely getting sub jobs. Too many subs chasing too few jobs! I also send my resume to the school principal whenever there is an aide job on the website. But all the principals say that I must go thru HR. I am also trying to use any"connections" that I have, e.g., telling friends etc to put in a word for me but no luck this way also:(

I have omitted my name etc but hopefully you can see it formatted.
    Thanks so much.

It's a little "chatty". Perhaps start by taking out the "I"s and "me"s. And sentences like: I keep in mind a child’s special needs and support the teacher when I sub might be better converted to a more business like tone. Substitute Teaching: (now insert a bulleted list of your skills and duties) - implement lesson plans, practice classroom management, etc.

I should clarify: I don't mean "chatty" in the sense of talking too much, I mean it in the sense of sounding too casual.

It may not be you at all--I had a terrible time getting hired with my present employer--it took them months just to get me in as a sub. Then several more months to get on as a parapro. There have been many complaints about the HR dept here, so that may be what you're up against too. I'll pass on the advice I was given: call a lot and bug them, and frequently update your online application--this will bump it back up to the top.

    Thanks, stepka

I am taking a break - I am fed up of applying and no response.
But I will start looking again next weekend.

I just got hired as a classroom assistant in a charter school. I applied in October and just had my first day on 2/19/10 - it took 4 months! They were moving so slow, it actually took them 2 months just to respond to my application.

A professional resume is always a must. I think it's best and probably standard to talk about yourself in the 3rd person, and be as specific and concise as possible. I didn't even have experience in teaching, so I focused on my education (which was way more than what they asked), my previous work experience (clerical, which was great for this position) and references.

I think its important to be precise and concise when creating a resume. Some of your bullet points are too long and don't just cut straight to the point. Narrow these statements down to get the most meaning you can and that will help!

This part needs to be redone, in a manner where there's no I statements. Short and consist. For example:
    • Teach grade-level appropriate curriculum and differentiate instruction in all core content areas

    Parent Volunteer, NJ 2004-
    District Name present

    • Active participant in various events like school store, book fair. Weekly library volunteer in elementary schools, which relieved the librarian of routine matters.

Any job descriptions that you can transfer over to the world of education??

    SKILLS
    • English language skills
    • people skills
    ,
    • ability to work under pressure
HMmmm, what about, computers programs that you can use?
