How the heck do these people get jobs? Today alone there were two new stories about teachers who have abused or had an improper relationship with students. One was in my state and another was out of state. I admit we did have a teacher get arrested and has not gone to trial here in our district last year. What is this world coming to that grown adults feel the need to abuse or have relationship with a child. I do not find anyone under the age of 30 that attractive!!!!!!

For a moment I thought you were talking about my school system. :/ In the past 2 years there have been 3 arrests for various stupid teacher/student things.

They not only mess up the life of the student but also their career. Stupid!

Some people are gross. I don't think any of us can even begin to understand why they make the choices they make.

If you are a person who feels attracted to young people, I would think it common sense to get a career where you are as far away from them as possible.

Some people are just so gross.

When I was a junior in High school, we got a new Assistant band director. We were all VERY close to our band directors. They were all like dads because we spent so much time with them. So, when the new Assistant director immediately befriended a "clique" of students that had lots of girls, it didn't really seem out of the norm.

Fast forward to a few years after graduation, he was arrested and charged for having an improper relationship with a current student. I immediately revisited my band memories and it occurred to me then that his behavior was definitely more 'personal' that the other two directors.

Many of the once band moms were not surprised by his actions, unfortunately.

It's amazing though, how as a student it didn't seem 'weird'. THAT just goes to show how naïve young students are. It's so easy for them to fall victim to preying teachers.

At first I thought you meant two teachers having improper relationships with each other! If only that were the case. I'm not sure why teachers do this (or any adult for that matter). A woman I went to school with (elementary-college) was found to have had an improper relationship with a high school student (she taught elementary). I just can't even imagine. Maybe their self esteem is so low that even the hint of attention from a student boosts it up and so they continue because it makes them feel better about themselves. It's gross though!

When it happened in our district I can't say I wasn't surprised. The teacher that did always gave me the creeps. What surprised me was the girls who were involved. I know one of the girls and her family pretty well. I was totally shocked for her to say she was "in love with him" Ughhhh Not supposed to happen that way. They found out because he got another girl from another town pregnant and when the DNA test came back as his baby he was looked into by the police. The mother was also underage but was never his student, but someone he worked with during the summer like at a summer camp.

I can admit that I have had some really good looking students over the years and that many HS boys like to flirt with their young female teachers. That being said, no boy is so fine that I would risk my paycheck, pension and benefits to have sex with him. Hell-to-the-no! Not to mention, I wouldn't survive going to jail or being homeless on the streets.

If I had a thing for younger men, I would just go down to the local college campus and troll for guys. I don't understand why these teachers don't just go to the mall or the movies if they want to pick up (hopefully over the age of 18) teenagers.

I like younger guys, but not that young! I didn't even date in my early 20's because I taught high school and some of the guys I'd have been interested in were friends with kids in my classes. (I was 22 teaching seniors.). I did not even hang out with my friends much because my BFF's BF was a senior in high school. Totally not worth it. I'm currently dating a former student at my school. I was not interested in him in the least back then. At 15 and 23 . . . no way. At 36 and 44, not so bad.

Even if everyone is of legal age, that's a line you don't cross in supervisory positions. Unfortunately some people don't get that.

Thats a little extreme. I mean, yes its true men do get better looking as they age (up to a point), but women on the other hand mid 20's to 30 is the peak age in looks.

Personally, I'm hoping that new Jennifer Lopez movie on this subject is so bad that it turns off ANYONE to the idea entering a student - teacher relationship.

Shes the one who said those under 30 are unattractive. Just trying to keep some balance and perspective on it.

The difference is she gave her personal preference. You generalized all women and stated it as fact instead of your opinion.

Thats getting a little picky. Yes it was opinion., yes it was a generalization. Generalizations happen most of the top based on evidence. Maybe not all agree with the statement, but I would say a large portion do. Also, just didn't think it was very nice to say a certain group of people are unattractive (with many !!!! added on). Complementing one group is different than insulting a specific group.

Just to clarify, saying women peak in looks at 30 isn't insulting a specific group???

Good to know, BTW, that it's a universal truth that men are more attractive with age. Lucky guys! :)

Is that real information? That's pretty **** interesting!

(Okay this is super off topic but since it's already going there- I remember getting hit on by a guy in his 40's or 50's when I was maybe 17 years old. I was so grossed out, I couldn't believe it!)

A little more on topic- I have some students in my 8th grade class that look really old. I have one kid who could hands down pass for 18 or even 20. When I first saw him I looked up his age, and the kid is 14! My first year teaching I had a 19 year old kid who looked way older than that. So I guess I could see a teacher getting caught up in something, if they're MORONS.

This. I was SO freaked out the first time I subbed middle school because they look so much older than they really are! I'm 23, and I look young for my age, but when MIDDLE SCHOOLERS look older than me?
Not trying to justify it because regardless of how old they look, they are still KIDS, but they definitely look way older than they actually are.

I've been my current height (5'7") since I was 12, so I looked older. I was only 17 my first two semesters of college.

I'm 44 and like guys in their mid to late 30's. Youngest I went on a date with was 23. I was 43. He thought I was 30.

It looks like a chart that the site OKCupid might produce - they usually base it off a sample size of 2000-5000 people, based on what kind of people they select through the random quickmatch tool.

I haven't dealt with any teachers in my schools having inappropriate relationships with students, but I have dealt with:

    1) Being laid off for low enrollment an after they rehired a teacher that use to work at the school and was well-liked. Turns out he was a pedophile with a ton of porn of children on his SCHOOL computer.(I think that's karma for getting rid of me- a new teacher who was trying really hard.)

    2) The vice principal (who was married) definitely having something going on with the bobblehead pretty teacher (who was single). The P even told them to knock it off and they completely did NOT care. They were voted as the cutest couple by students. Thankfully BOTH of them left "all of a sudden" during the summer. (The female teacher is the kind of person I have avoided since I was little- cared more about her looks, she was totally fake, and has outright told children that they are bad/evil and teased them. I'm sooooo glad she's gone. The guy was to stupid to realize how unprofessional he was being as an administrator.)

No I dont see that as insulting. We all peak at some point, that doesn't mean the other ages are unattractive, just not as attractive as our peak ages. My point was there is a difference between not being at your peak and being unattractive.

I get there are people who are attracted to younger aged people. But you should have enough brains between your ears not go trolling your job for your next boyfriend. High school, middle school aged boys have nothing im attracted to in anyway shape or form. Yes I think some are very handsome but I still don't want to date them. My best friend is quite a bit younger than me. When we go out together the men she finds attractive are age appropriate for her but I would never even look twice at most of them becaue they are just too young for me.

Instead of saying that I don't find anyone under the age of 30 attractive I should have said that I don't find myself attracted to anyone under the age of 30.

EXACTLY! I don't understand it!! Why would anyone want to risk their future (not to mention the sanity and emotional health of a youngster) in order to have any kind of relationship with a student?

It also makes me particularly mad whenever I hear of men doing this, because as a male, I already have to combat some societal attitudes that work against me; we all know that if a female teacher is hugged by a first grader, nobody will think anything of it and they will, in fact, think it's cute and go "Aww!," but people tend to look "weird" at you if you are a dude and let any of your first graders hug you. It's just the way society looks at men. So, whenever any of these perverts actually gets inappropriately involved with a student, it gives some people the ammo to justify their own anti-male-teachers prejudice.

In my high school, there were several teachers who dated teachers and even an administrator who dated a teacher. I never found anything wrong with that!

On top of which, around here anyhow, it seems to happen with teachers in districts I would KILL to get into.

It also seems to involve, by percentage, FAR MORE younger teachers (20s, 30s, under-40)......who you would THINK are at the peak of their dating careers and would be naturally attracted to each other, rather than students.

You are the exact opposite of me. I prefer older men. My boyfriend is 22 years older than me, but he's of the "perfect-for-me" type.

Only time that I was a student and attracted to a teacher, I kept my mouth shut until I was out of college. By then, the teacher and I had become good friends, close enough that I realized that was all we should be. He had been high school classmates with my father, so that would have been REALLY awkward, so I'm glad he's still a friend.

I can't believe a teacher would risk their education, sweat, & tears to actually act on feelings for a studenet when they know they'll get caught eventually, lose their jobs, wreck their own marriage/family, their reputation, PLUS be in trouble with the law, PLUS have a dismal future! Why, why, why??!!

They might be book-smart, but their common sense is down the toilet.

I see this as the opposite-- teaching attracts those types because they're around children and think they won't get caught.

I use to work at a church and attended a 20s "youth" group. One of my co-workers also attended this group. He appeared to be a nice, great, and fun guy.... until we saw him on the news for filming his teenage band students while they were changing...

HUGE shock. Though... he didn't deny the taping and production and possession of these videos-- he admitted to having a problem, that's not going to help him.

I always thought "How could people NOT know someone close to them is--- whatever".... and I now know. Sometimes they hide it REALLY well.

If you're in California you've probably seen him on the news in past months...
