I like to share things about my life here - I also like reading about other teachers' lives... so guess what?

My 9 year old girls are adopting a kitten each tomorrow. We took them to the county animal control agency and let them see all the homeless babies. They each picked one. We decided to sleep on it - and tomorrow we'll go get them.

My last old cat died in May. Our cats were 7 and 8 years old when my girls were born and didn't like to be held, so these are the first little cuddly pets they will have. It's so sweet.

M#1 chose a cat from a feral mother's litter. She is jumpy but purred up a storm in my daughter's arms. M#2 chose a cat from a non-feral mother's litter and that one is outgoing and cheerful. Since they are from different litters, we will have to introduce them to our house in separate contained areas, then to each other in one contained area, then to the rest of the house.

I'm keen on trying the training kit to get them to use the toilet. That will be after they get used to each other, the house, and us going back to work.

I didn't realize how much I missed a purring cat. Ah, happiness.

    A house isn't a home without a cat.

Haha, Mrs. K. I feel that way, too. When my last furbaby died, I felt a little relieved of the work - cat litter, sometimes stepping in cat barf, fur everywhere, buying litter in time... But I had so much fun petting and holding little kittens today. The purring is therapeutic. I felt at home, like you said.

I also remember being a kid with my own cat. I thought that was special. He lived to 13 (I was 18 then) and it was so special to have him with me that long.

I think kittens are so cute, but I'm horribly allergic. Someone three a kitten out near my house--literally put it in a bag and tossed it out the car window. I found it, my neighbor helped me rescue it, and I kept it on my porch until one if my neighbors adopted it. It was so cute!

Hope you enjoy the new kitties.

OMG what a JERK who threw a kitten out a car window. My God it makes my blood boil. Living creature. What do people not get about that.

Sorry. I'm so glad I'm not allergic. Love to snuggle my face right into them.

My sister and I picked out a kitten when we were both in elementary school. We named her Tara a/k/a Tasmanian Devil. She would curl up next to us one moment and then try to escape by pushing out the screens and jumping out the 2nd story window the next. lol. I love that kitty to this day (even though you can't go by her without her attempting to claw your eyes out). The only person Tara will go by is my sister (and my mom when it's time for food). She still scares the dog by sneaking up on him and all. Though I don't think she's going to live much longer. My mom said she is starting to not eat and that her kidneys are bad =( She is 13 now.

I want a kitten so badly! I always grew up with one. The one I got my freshman year of high school is still living with my parents. I get so excited about seeing him when I go home, haha. I'd love to get one out here, but I live alone and I travel a lot to vist friends/family. All of my local friends aren't originally from around here either, so we're all gone for the holidays at the same time- no one to watch it over thanksgiving/christmas and things like that :(.

I really want a new one too. I have my cat but I think he needs a brother or sister.

Kittens are so incredibly awesome! Silver, they definitely are happier in pairs. Get another one!

We adopted a kitty born to a feral mom a few years ago...he is so lovey and sooooo spoiled. He will only eat the expensive Fancy Feast...I remind him all the time he could be outside eating bugs.

Today's the day! The kitten from the feral mom is all black, short hair. He's 3 months old. He was in a room with two siblings, looked like triplets, but my girl chose the one who connected with her immediately. She'd never held a cat (our old cats weren't the type!) but this one leaned into her and purred..... :)

The other kitten is black and white, four months old. She walked right up to us with her head and back held up for some petting.

    How fun!

This morning I went to see what time my dd had to go to work. Her cat was laying on top of her! So sweet. We only have the
1, she won't let another cat in the house.

I wish you were closer. I have 5 cats that will be looking for homes in 2 weeks or so. I am fostering 4 kittens and their mother, who were rescued from a cat hoarder.

Thanks, Mmswm & everyone for the well wishes. This is so exciting. Now we're trying to put together two areas the kittens can be contained in while they get used to this home. The shelter folks said they need to be contained individually for awhile since they don't know each other. Hmmm....

Cat hoarder = special place in @#$%. So mean (even though they think it is kind).

We got the babies home. They are so nervous. We put one in each of our master bathrooms so they can acclimate to the house. Little tuxedo cat came right out and played, but flipped out when the toilet was flushed. Little black cat hid behind the hamper for two hours, peeking out for head pets.

This is the tough stage for them. If we don't make huge mistakes, they will forget they were ever afraid here and will only think of this as "home."

How fun! I love kittens - someone dumped two kittens off at my vet's doorstep. They were sitting in a cage, waiting for adoption while me & my kitty were waiting for her appointment. My cat and one of the kittens just had the cutest conversation... it took everything I had not to bring him home :(

They'll be fine, Shelly. My kitty was terrified when we brought her home, but she warmed right up in a few days :) Their curiosity will take right over.

Oh, Chebrutta, I know the feeling of wanting to help a little one but you can't....I really can't think about it long or I get truly miserable.

The little black cat escaped the bathroom four times today. He kept squeezing between the wood we set up as a door* and the wall. I said, "He's Harry Houdini!" and my daughter decided to name him that. "Harry," isn't that adorable?

Little tuxedo cat is teething, I think. She bites on the woodwork, and on the cardboard carry box we brought her home in. She bit my toe once, too. Didn't hurt but was a surprise.

    * it's the sink and shower part of the bathroom that doesn't have a door; the toilet is in its own little room... bathrooms need doors, even the sink/shower part, imo!

They are SOO cute! I had one that looked like Boots when I was little. I wanted to name him Socks, but my mom refused to name our cat after Bill Clinton's cat...hahaha.

They look like DeeOhGee's friends, she had two kittens to play with when I lived in another town.
If the cat runs she will chase it just to play with but the cat does not know that, must be a language problem.
She would play with the kittens she even started to use her paws like a cat, but DeeOhGee was the alpha animal in the house.

Soooo cute! :D My one high strung cat mellows out when I pull out the cat nip. They sell those cat nip bubbles too. The kitten that adopted us a little less than a year ago still teethes. :p I tried those little worm things you put in the freezer, but she didn't like them. She prefers headphone cords, Iphone/ Ipod cords, plants...and my hair. I'm hoping she'll eventually stop. She does love to chase the laser light and those little nano bugs.

So cute! I wish I could have a kitty, but both DH and I are allergic. (Oh, and there's also that silly rule that says something about how we can't have animals in our apartment.) How awesome of your family to adopt from a shelter! All but one of my family's cats adopted us; 3 stayed outdoor kitties and a fourth allows my parents to live in her house. The other kitty was adopted from a rescue organization.

You must share their funny stories with us, along with more cute pictures!!
