:D Today I was teaching class when I heard a lot of racket coming down the hall. I finally realized that it was a band/parade and somewhere in there it clicked that it was the Education Foundation prize Parade!!! I was awarded TWO grants for my classroom. My birthday is tomorrow and the kids have been talking about it all week. When the parade came by and the P grabbed me from my room, one of the kids said "Mrs.- is this for your birthday?"
One of the grants is for the Quirkles Science curriculum that Frogstreet sells and the other is for a set of books that go with Lucy Calkins very well. I saw them last year at a conference and thought they were much better for kindergarten students than the books suggested ;) So, I am just bragging because I am so excited (possibly more excited than when I have personally won money )

They are the Rigby PM Photo Stories for kindergarten (magenta), sets 1 & 2 and there will be a complete set for each kindergarten teacher ( a total of 20 books). The books are each based on something that normal kindergarten students would do and write about (very Lucy Calkins) and the pictures are photographs, which I think will help the kids "get" that they are real stories much more than a painted/illustrated story ever will.

    Thank you everyone!

The grant is trough the city Education Foundation (sort of an alumni association for the HS). They work with the school district and chamber of commerce to provide schools with extra money. They ask employees to sign up for payroll deductions ($1-5 a month) and have numerous fund raisers along with donations by businesses and individuals. From there it is like any other grant process. You have to write a short essay and have it approved by the principal. Then, they review the applications and choose what to fund. In my area most school districts have an Education Foundation or Alumni Fund of some kind that provides teachers with grants.

    :thanks: to all again!
