I wonder how a transfer meeting goes. I haven't done a transfer meeting yet. Who facilitates and what do you say? Can anybody share her experience?
I'm in a charter school. We get students enrolled from other districts on a weekly basis. I don't know of any formalized meetings.
Transfer meetings are generally super short, assuming you're accepting the IEP. We introduce our team to the parent and explain that we're transferring the IEP to our school and that the services and goals will remain the same from the previous IEP. I ask if the parent wants me to go over what those services and goals from the previous IEP are- I don't think anyone has ever actually said yes, but I always ask. Then we just sign the paperwork and ask if they have any questions. Before the days of zoom, I would feel badly about having parents come in for these meetings (possibly needing to take time off work) when it was literally less than 5 minutes most of the time. So often I'd call the parent, explain that we were accepting the IEP and that the services would be transferred over. Then I'd ask if they would rather me just send the paperwork home for them to sign, or if they wanted to come in for a short meeting to meet us and review the paperwork. It's easier now with zoom, so I normally just schedule the meeting via zoom, but warn them that it will likely only be just a few minutes so they know they don't need to take the afternoon off work or whatever. Classroom teachers aren't required to attend a transfer meeting. That's probably why you don't know about them.
