    Does anybody grade using total points instead of weighted grading? I think I'm going to do total points this year. I was wondering how you all grade using total points. Do you have a system? Like all homework assignments are worth ten, quizzes 20, tests 50? Or do you just assign each assignment an amount of points?

    I used total points grading in math and it worked better than in Social Studies becuase I had less graded assignments. (Basically my daily work outweighed assesments becuase I graded too much daily hw/cw).

    My point values were something like this:
    -Quizzes (frequent;1-2 times a week): 20 points each.
    -Mid-Chapter Test (requried by department): 100 points each.
    -End of Chapter Test: 100 points each.
    -Notebook: 100 points per term.
    -Homework (checked, nightly): 5 points each.
    -Graded HW,CW,Projects, Actvities, Etc: 15-75 points.
    -Warm-ups: 10 points per week (100 points per term).

    I use total points. As long as I don't get lazy, it works out the same as weighting the assignments. I use the following:

    HW = checked 3x per week, 30 points total
    Quiz = 1 per week, 20 points
    Group Assignments/Projects = 50 points
    Tests = 100 points, given every other week

    Weight wise, this works out to be about

    20% homework
    13% Quizzes
    33% Tests
    33% Group Work and Projects
