Never though I would have this problem.

I have 3 interviews on Tuesday...My problem is that they are all in opposite directions.

One is 1 hour from my house east at 1230, and the other is 1 hour from my house west at 4. should I go to both or just forget it.

the other is 5 minutes away at 9-so I will definitely go to that.

What should I do? That is hours of driving!

Can I say... do you want a job? If yes, then GO! Do you know how many of us on here are excited for just one!!!

If these are all places you would definitely want to teach at... THEN GO! I think it is a no brainer.

    Good luck!!! :)

GO! There is no such thing as too many interviews when you're searching for a teaching job.

If, by "downstate" you mean New York, then you would be insane to skip any of those interviews!!!!

Elementary jobs in NY have always been INCREDIBLY hard to get. The economic crisis has made that even worse. There are so very many teachers out of work, praying for that phone call for an interview.

Yep, you'll spend some time in the car. So gas up and play your favorite music, and give each of those interviews your best shot.

Definitely go! It seems like they are spaced well enough apart that you should be able to make it to all of them. Good luck!

GO GO GO TO ALL OF THEM!!!! You never know how each of them will turn out and what you'll like about each school. It's hard enough getting ONE interview--- be super thankful that you have THREE!! :)

You should be ok to make both. The latest you should get out of the 12:30 one would be 2PM. Which would give you the two hrs you need to get to the other one. I can't imagine the 12:30 one going more then 45 minutes.

Make sure you have the numbers of other places you have to go to in-case something unpredictable happens such as traffic, a long interview, or such. I had an interview which lasted 3 hours because I had to wait 1.5 hours since I was 1. late for it, 2. there were other people they wanted to interview. I had tried to leave after the first hour, but they wanted to interview me badly. Amazingly, I still ended up getting that job after another 1.5 hours of talking and taking breaks. I didn't take that job and ended up with a better offer I couldn't refuse.

So I guess you just never really know. . .

Since they are all scheduled on the same day, try to go to all of them. The other thing you can do is call a district is see if they are willing to accommodate your crazy schedule. If not, try calling another one. Maybe you'll get lucky!

Do it! It's crazy...a couple of weeks ago I had 2 interviews on the same day...I literally spent the day in my car...the first was 40 minutes west of my house and the 2nd was 55minutes north east.

I got the no thank you from the north east one and still waiting to hear from the west one.

LI is trying to bang out those interviews before school ends Friday!

I feel pretty good about one, but the other is special ed. I am not as comfortable with that.

    I'll update that night.

I took a spec. ed job just to get my foot in the door. I managed to do all right. You never know you might like it. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I had been in the right fit school for me. I wasn't so it was ok. I am now in a school with a great principal and he hired me because I had experience working with those kiddos, although I'm a regular ed teacher now, he knows I can handle those spec ed kids.

So I went to the 2nd round interview with one...it was with the director of spec. ed and supt.

The interview went wonderfully...they asked if i would take a TA job if offered. I said no, then they kept asking why not, almost trying to persuade me.

I hate that I interviewed for a teaching job, and when it comes down to it, they already know who they are going to hire and they are just trying to convince people to take TA jobs.

    UGH!

That stinks a little...but I would take it if I were you....probably...do you know how much the pay is- depending on the district, I've seen from 18-30,000 for TA's on LI and they usually include benefits.

If its near the high side with benefits I would go for it...sub pay isnt going to be that high and you will have a much higher chance of getting a job next year.

What did you do this past year? or did you just graduate?

UGH! I am so sorry they did that. I had something similar happen when I was "interviewed" for a teaching position and then even got a verbal offer. Turns out they didn't even have that spot available and only have asst jobs open and I felt just weren't honest about it. for me, the asst position was $20K less than the teacher job and so I chose to walk away at that point.

You may have to weight the options of could you swing it to get your foot in the door or do you look for what else is out there.

it is a high salary-higher than what you posted....but I have a full time job already-not in public, which pays more.

Agreed! It reminds me of car ads that show one car and you get there no car. Just some much more expensive models.
