I'm posting this for my co-worker Janice. She has a son who has a physical impairment. As a result of this, when he stands to urinate he often misses the toliet slightly. As he is getting older this is getting more embarssing for him as it is difficult for him to clean the floor himself. Janice is looking for some sort of absorption pad, etc. to put on the floor around the toliet. Something disposable that they could perhaps cut into the shape of those around the toliet mats/carpets and throw away at the end of the day. Someone suggested those house training pads for puppies. Does anyone have any ideas? She's really in need of suggestions. Thank you, Wendy and Janice
You might suggest she check with a local pharmacy or her son's doctor's office. They should be able to at least refer a type of product to her. In the mean time, those blue underpads they use in hospitals could be cut to fit around the toilet. They are fairly inexpensive. I used them when I changed my son's diapers in public restrooms. If she wants to use something re-usable, she could buy the waterproof bed pads, cut them to fit around the toilet and sew the edges. She could buy several and throw them in the washer as needed. Less expensive, but more maintenance. Just a suggestion. I will ask my mom. She was a care giver to a friend who was confined to a wheel chair 3/4 of the day. She spent lots of time shopping in medical supply stores and browsing through catalogs to find products to fit her friend's needs. She might have seen something that would benefit your friend.
Is it for home or school? I have an idea... it is something my dad fixed up for my brother who has Downs and had aiming problems with using the bathroom. He took a 2 liter bottle and cut off the bottom part... take the cap off and you have a funnel... he would hold it in front of him and pee in it and it would go in the toilet. Mom had a separate trash can over to the side to store it and had baking soda in the bottom of it to absorb the drops of urine that may be on it and to help with any odor... baking soda or kitty litter would work. Dad also made him another one to use when he had to sit and do his business... keep the cap on and cut it to look like a large scoop. He would put it between his legs and it would keep him from going all over the place because it would make it go in the toilet instead of straight out. Now dad came up with the names for these 2 things... the one for standing was the "whizzer aimer" and the one for sitting was the "whizzer catcher"... leave it to dad! I know... sounds rather redneck... LOL but whatever works!!!!! Lori
