Two projects for the classroom today:

This is a table I picked up for free. It had a sliding keyboard tray right under the table top. I had these four baskets, so I took a power drill (love my power drill!) and moved the tray 'guides' halfway down the side legs. So now I have a middle shelf that slides out. This is our podcasting station, so the baskets will hold blank cds, the iPod, etc.

My second project will take all next week to finish, I predict. My walls are covered in a thick corkboard like sheeting. It's in really bad shape, but won't get painted this summer. So I got a HUGE bolt of fabric-it's off white/oatmeal color and super soft, like baby flannel. It's actually window shade lining. Anyhow, I'm taking the sheets of the corkboard down, one by one, and wrapping them in fabric. This is the first one I did today-I stapled it with a stapler in the back to secure the fabric, but I'd feel better if I could get a staple gun to REALLY make sure the fabric stays before bolting it back on the wall. Anyhow, here is the first piece:

So two projects to maybe inspire you? ;)

You amaze me at getting so much stuff free. The fabric covering looks so clean and fresh. Can you use flannel backed things to stick things to it?

I like the idea of moving the shelf on the table. Did you get it from freecycle? I'm still waiting to find something other than "baby clothes" and "storm windows" on my local freecycle.

I know that school is glad they found you! :) Very cool projects. Unfortunately no one wants to see me try to use power tools , however it is inspiring. I'm just dying to get into my room!

I am going to finish my room today if it kills me. I have to...

    - put up my welcome bbs (2 of them outside)
-fix another bb in my room
-put up a new border around another bb? This is a maybe project
    -fix my calendar and schedule
-create my new information area when you walk in the room
-put away all of the random stuff on counter tops
-print out and put up all of my new labels for items
    -connect my computers
    -put up my wishlist sign
-put up my new word walls
-copy my start of school stuff
-print out my covers for my homework folders
-put new labels on my new book bins.

and get together all of the things I need to do this weekend:
-make my "all about me" bulletin board
-put together my take home folders
-figure out a title for my other bbs
-get my name tags, back to school apples, job chart tags and whatever else I find to fill out with student names.

And whatever else I run across. I am shutting my door and being unfriendly lol.

I wish I could get into my classroom! They haven't decided yet which room is mine...either they're moving me to the fourth floor (all those stairs for pre-k/K????) because the room is bigger, or keeping me next to the lunch room on the second floor, in the smaller room, where there's only a room divider (not one that goes all the way to the ceiling either) separating me from the lunch room. So much for cool projects for me....

    Your projects look awesome Jem!
