I am currently set to graduate May 10th with a Secondary Ed Math Degree and Certification from a school in PA. I have been applying to schools in NJ and SC for anticipated or open certified positions for the 2014/2015 school year.

Usually how long until I could possibly hear something back from the schools? I have applied to over 10 within the last two weeks but haven't heard anything from anyone.

Also is my application looked down upon at all since I am still in school and haven't graduated yet? Thanks!

You still might hear from some of those, but you might not. Don't get disheartened. When you've graduated it might be a good idea to get a foot into some of the schools and hand in your resume in person. Good luck!

You're not going to hear anything until the school year is over at the very earliest. Depending on budgets and how your school district prioritizes transfers, you may find yourself not hearing anything until the weeks before the new school year starts.

I applied to a district in Central NJ in early March, got called for an interview last week, and the interview isn't until the end of the month.

We've already hired three new staff members for the 2014-2015 school year.

Wow, that's early. When does your school year end and is it a large district?

May 30th, and about 300 students per grade.

We don't have a lot of the HR bureaucracy that other districts do, however. Principals pick who they want to interview, tell HR who they want to hire, and present it to the board at the next meeting.
