We have 14 student days left, plus four teacher days (three of those are snow make-up days).
36.5 student days + 2.5 teacher days + 1 holiday Monday
We are so close! Unfortunately, our students can feel it! We have 6 instructional days, and four exam days (dismiss at 12:20) left. Plus one teacher day. Now off to keep the kids focused on... something?
Pretty close to ours - maybe a couple less. Plus probably a few weekends spent in the classroom working on packing between now and the last day!
(This is the time of year I always wish I had a little more time!)
5 more weeks plus ELSE?! Ew...!
19 more days for me.
It's the schedule I've always known--as a teacher, a mom and a student. The first day of school is the day after Labour Day (we don't have any mandatory days before then) and this year the students finish at 11:30 on June 27th and teachers are "free" on June 28th after morning meetings and after our rooms are packed up for the summer.
Won't complain at all about my 9 weeks of summer. It's always tough this time of year when everyone else is finishing and I'm still in the classroom, but it is nice when many here are getting ready to head back and I'm only halfway through my break.
I get that, but my summer is 11.5 weeks. Our school days are super long, though, so it all balances out. We get out May 20th (1/2 day work day for teachers) and teachers go back August 8.
Wait a minute, your summer is 9 weeks but MissCeliaB’s is 11.5 weeks. You got the short end of the stick not only with the timing of summer but the length. Oof!
There have been times when I've wished for longer days as a trade-off for a shorter year. This year, however, my class is exhausting and I need them to go home after being with them for our 6.5 hour school day.

My last day is May 30. It would have been the 22, but we had several snow days.

Make up days are the worst.

10 days, *sigh*
6 student days, and 1 teacher day after that.
Same here. I’m so ready to be done with school!
Thankfully one day is awards, one is “fly up” to meet our new classes (and that one is a half day with our grade level taking the afternoon for an ice cream party), one is going to be literally cleaning and watching a movie... so really closer to three days.

FINALLY down to single digits, smh.
We’re still at 14 days and counting...
May 20, 2019
7 days *sigh*
THREE. MORE. DAYS.
I am exhausted.
I get out this Friday the 24th. I'm always ready for summer but this year a little more so because we have been in testing mode for almost 6 weeks. Last year it was only a week but this year we transitioned to online testing and it took FOREVER. The kids are done, I'm done, and its time to wrap it up.

June 21 here in Arlington, Va but then again we start after Labor Day.
5 2/3 days.....oooo so close
May 22, 2019
I have less than a half day left! Students are gone; tomorrow is a teacher work day. We were able to sign out for check out times and I snagged 10:30 AM. So I just have 8-10:30 tomorrow and then I will be completely finished!

Is VA the only state that has schools getting out in June ?
4 2/3 days........
Graduation day for us is June 21st. I'm in NY.
Ok that’s my last day here too. Now I don’t feel as bad lol
Yeah, I have no idea why schools start so early in and are done in May. I never heard of such a thing until I came to this site.
We miss so many days for snow some years, if we didn’t start the first of August, we’d never get out. One year we missed 28 days! It was June 11 before we got out. Another year was an anomaly, and we missed ONE day. We were our May 11. A neighboring district was out April 28.

That's crazy! What about states that never get snow? Why do they start in early August? I even saw one person post they had to go back at the end of July!
Snow days allowed by county in my area - northern va - are so diverse. My county has 10 days, the county next to us has 15, and the next ( which is just 20 miles away from my school ) has 20. But yet the county just north of me in MD only was allowed 2 snow days ....
Such a relaxing day not having to teach (Final’s Week starts today). And I’m going out to lunch with my colleagues after I finish grading (scantrons for the win).
3.5 minimum days left for me!
What are "allowed" snow days? When we have days missed for snow, we just add them to the end of the school year.
Snow amounts vary wildly around here. For example, the county to our east misses more days than we do while the one to the west misses far less. We are each a week apart with our start times, and our scheduled days off varies, too.
You mean you have to make up every single snow day? That totally takes the fun out of snow days!
Everywhere I've worked (and I know my home state does this too) has a set number of snow days that you're allowed to have before you have to start making them up. Here, it's usually 3-5 as snow days are pretty rare- most of the time we're just expected to deal with it. In my home state, after one particularly bad winter, they changed the rules so that schools could send home "blizzard bags" (work for students to do from home) so that the days didn't have to be made up once they reached the limit.
Snow days are very rare for us and we've definitely never reached a point of having to make them up. I had 3 days this year, which was more than my entire 8 years of teaching combined before this. We got out yesterday. Teachers will go back August 7th and students are the 13th or something like that. I highly prefer our schedule to those who have to go through June and then get August off. Even though it works out to the same amount of time off, it feels better getting out "earlier" when you're dragging through the end of the year. By August, I'm usually ready to go back and get back to my regular routine and schedule anyway, so it doesn't feel like going back too soon. One year we went well into June and then started at the beginning of September due to construction, and we all hated it!
That’s how many are built into our school year. We can miss that many days but if we go over then they start to make them up.
No. My county is allowed 10 snow days built into the school year. If we go over, we start making them up.
As of 10:00 this morning, I am officially on summer break!
I'm jelly over here *sigh*
Kids left today. Last day is Tues. No more poopy diapers!
Yes, we make up every day missed.
