To continue with last week's success, I am declaring today Marvelous Monday...now get to those emails, resumes, and whatnot...and GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks. You have inspired me to inquire about a .5 subbing job for preschool in a district near my home. I am certified but haven't taught preschool, so at first I thought, why bother? But I know what the response on this forum would be: apply, apply, apply! I do have some unique experience in that I was the site manager for my daughter's preschool coop one year. Have done a little per diem subbing in preschool, too. Obviously a contracted job is the name of the game, but since I don't have an offer yet, I figure I may as well email the principal (I actually know him personally) and find out how long the assignment will be and if he would consider me. Hope everyone else finds some more positions to apply for today!
Yes, apply! It never hurts to have your name on the tip of a principal's tongue! They may have another position open up or talk to someone who does.
Good for you Rainbow!! And remember folks, it's NOT about sitting home, waiting for the phone to ring. That's what the competition is doing. It's about applying, emailing, stopping in-- being proactive in making sure that when a principal needs a teacher, he or she has your resume in the file.
I had an interview this morning that was, in a word, AWESOME! The principal was incredibly impressed, and told me what made me stand out, was that I want to start a History club at the school. Turns out she was a Social Studies teacher and saw firsthand how the students thrived with having such a club at the school (she did not run it though). Even better, she said she would call me tomorrow either way. I let her know that we appreciate that very much I forgot to mention that I also received a phone call on my way from the interview to work from another school to interview tomorrow for an interim position. I would much rather a full year position, but if I am not offered one, I'll take an interim to get my foot in the door.
I'm sending out more emails this morning....unfortunately I already got back 3 from principals saying there were no positions, but I have to keep trying! I really hope I'll have some luck soon.
TeachTN...you are on fire!! I am so hopeful that one of these positions will be the ONE for you! Good luck, kmeteach!!
They may have nothing NOW, but you could have planted the seed for when they DO have an opening. I'm glad you are not giving up, there is still time left, and there could be interim positions out there too.
I heard back from one of the people I emailed! The HR person indicated as the contact person for one of the open positions I applied for wrote to say she's sending my resume on to the principal. I got a name (so now I can follow up with the P) and I was told the P is on vacation through the end of the month, so I have a timeframe of when I should expect to hear back too. I applied online but have heard nothing via that method so I am super glad I emailed the HR person at the same time as applying online. Fingers crossed some of my other emails start to pay off similarly! And GOOD LUCK to everyone else hearing back/making efforts this week!
TeachTN, I sure hope so. I think most principals here go back to work around the end of July/early August, so I'm crossing my fingers that something will pop up.
Way to go, TeachTN!!! Good luck, 3littelmonkeys!! Have you already emailed the P? You never know, just because he's on vacation, he could still be checking his work email every once in awhile. kmeteach~keep it up!!
Thanks! I hadn't yet, because the posting didn't indicate which school the opening was at. Now that I can track down an email address, I was thinking of emailing close to when she's due back in the office--that way when she gets in, it'll be towards the top, rather than buried. Also planning on calling one of the districts on my lunch break, to "verify" they received all docs they need, etc. Basically just to make contact...
I got a call this morning for a 1st round interview Wed morning. It's for a long term (full year) sub position in the school literally 3 houses away from where I live. I could walk to work every day!!
Awesome, Jamie! Good luck!! And it continues! I just received an email to interview Thursday at 2!! This isn't for a teaching position. It's for a diagnostician position, still in education, just up on the payscale.
Wow, so much good news today! Good luck everyone! I just spoke to one of my co-workers, she is keeping an eye out for any internal openings in my old district for me. I know I can always email my principal as well, but it's nice to have someone helping me out in a place where they already know me. I would love to return there, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, still sending out emails to other principals!
Some good news, since it's still Monday (for me, at least)....a principal replied back and said there was subbing available, and she would forward my resume and I would be contacted in August. Still hoping for something more permanent....but it's nice to get a positive email at last!
Sounds greeat kme-- at the very least, you'll have a foot in the door, some income, and some experience for your resume. But it's too early to really think of subbing yet... a whole month in NY before school starts.
Alice, I also got a letter from my old district today, they want me back as a sub (I was a TA but my position was cut). I have to send back paperwork. Should I also send a letter reminding them that I am still interested if anything else pops up? I don't know how districts work when it comes to jobs opening up and them looking at former staff for positions.
I don't know either, but I certainly would!! Hey, if I were looking for a job in a market like NY, everyone from my dentist to the UPS guy would know. I would be networking like crazy!
Oh yes, I've been telling everyone! I know a few people, family included, that work in schools, so I'm trying my best to get an in somewhere.
I contacted a principal from my current school district that moved to a district about 30 minutes away. I dropped my resume off at his school last year and he took the time to meet with me even though he didn't have any positions available. He recommended me for my current position as a TA. I saw a position in his new district so I decided to email him. About 20 minutes later, my phone rang and it was him calling. He said that he remembered me and would love for me to come in and interview. I will be meeting with him on Thursday. He also said that a lot of TA's in his district applied for this position so I'm not sure that my chances are that great. I am just going to make sure that I am as prepared as I can be. All I can do is my best. Any ideas on how I can stand out against TA's that have been working in the district?
