I know for certain that I want to get my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (Specialization in Social Studies) or elementary education However, what are some thoughts on a ED.D or a Ph.D. My university offers an ED.D in Elementary Ed. They also have Ph.D programs in Ed. leadership and secondary ed. I don't know really which way to go. My ultimate goal is to move on to being a principal or superintendent after I decide to move on from the actual classroom. So, I am looking for any input on the best routes to take for my goals.
Most superintendents needs a Ph.D or ED.D degree. If this is your ultimate goal, I would go for the further education. Do you have your principal or administration degree yet? This might be a masters worth pursuing.
No I do not. The university does offer a masters in educational leadership. I've just always been told to get masters for more opportunities... And I have always wanted to pursue that anyways. However, there are many routes to go.
No I am not. Sorry. I should have clarified that in my initial post. I am going to be takin the GRE soon. However, after that I'm not so sure the direction I want to go.
In order to be a principal, you actually need to pursue a special certification in my state. Not sure if this is the same everywhere...but something to look into.
what do you all think about going directly into a grad program? Should I teach a few years first or put it off and get a masters done?
Hello everyone, my name is rahul recently only i have done my graduation in this college kindly please suggest me some ideas about studies to bulit my career. At same time i can suggest your ideas to my juniors . So it will be helpful for them also.
So, if I'm understanding this correctly, you are not currently teaching? Some places may not be willing to hire you with a masters and no teaching experience. As I have taught my experiences and goals have changed. Laws have also changed. Last year I didn't want my admin cert, now it is required to have a position in the central office. So, I'm getting that. I also want to teach at the university level, so I"m working on my EdD. I never thought that I would even consider that, but here I am. You need the teaching experience.
Hate when that happens. I try not to comment on old threads, but sometimes I just don't notice that it's from eons ago.
