This will be my first year teaching 4th. I have taught 2nd and 3rd in the past and used the 101 Dalmatian theme (I collected them). This year I went with a patriotic theme. I have a very tiny room so I am limited on how I can arrange my room but I am pretty happy with it.http://www.flickr.com/photos/40974205@N06/show/

I like the student chairs a lot! Great color! Nice size. You also made good use of your space!

The only suggestion I have is that you may want to organize the books in your classroom library in bins! Depending on how many, maybe fantasy, mystery, realistic fiction, etc. bins.

However, your room looks really nice! I'm getting into mine really soon, too. :)

    Thanks everyone!

    Ms. Jasztal,
I will have most of the same kids from last year so I am only putting my chapter books out, I have about 200 of them. For the low kiddos I will have a basket of books for us to pull from, I will change the books periodically. (I have over 1000 books total for my classroom library.)

I will have the gifted and special ed kids. My gifted kids last year did not want to be pushed and continued to choose books well below their levels. So I am eliminated that this year.

I will also be implementing "book bags". This is where the kids keep their leveled readers, one nonfiction book, one chapter book, and two library books. They won't be able to tell me they have nothing to read :)

Great ideas! I hope you really enjoy having the same students again! :) At least they already know your classroom library.

Nice looking room. My school will be implementing Thinking Maps this year. Are they very useful?

    I LOVE THINKING MAPS!!!!!

They are extremely useful. We use them for everything and the kids enjoy them, it's less writing than taking notes but they get the same if not more out of them.

My old school used them, this one does not but I can't imagine teaching without them.

I agree; thinking maps are great. The first day of school before, I have used the bubble map to have students come up with introductions about themselves.
