I can't figure out these forums. There seems to be an amazing amount of harmony. I don't see ad hominems and locked threads. What gives? These are the most civil discussion forums I've ever posted on. I really like it here.

None of the moderators seem to be on a power trip. They seem very hands off, but the posters are all so nice. Not so at many forums. I'm amazed at the decorum here.

I know. I belong to a mommy forum and things can get ugly there. Here everyone is very nice. :)

YA looking for a fight lady???

OK, back to reality. I agree-- this is a most pleasant place to be. Even when we disagree, strongly, we normally come back on another thread and pleasantly discuss another topic.

I can't imagine spending my time on a site where I would be target practice for anyone who disagreed with me.

I agree. I post on an mom's forum and there's controversy about once a week!

It's nice to come here and escape that.

It's nice to have a relaxed forum, and especially nice to be able to communicate professionally with other professionals.

I agree. It's nice to hear so many encouraging words when things don't go well for people. If a discussion starts to heat up, someone always steps in and smooths things over.

We teachers sure have a nice way of setting people straight!

From time to time we get trouble, but it's not regular. When it trouble brews it seems to get settled quickly.

Thanks for the compliment, GardenDove :)

We try pretty hard to keep the peace, but we really don't need to do it all that often! Sometimes a clown comes on here and tries to make trouble, but we stay as on top of it as we can. :)

Ellen, that's what's great about the "report post" button... it sends a note to all the mods so whoever's on first can take care of it if neccessary. It really helps us out when you guys see something thats' not appropriate before we do! :)

That's because in addition to being intelligent human beings, teachers are kind, generous, truly civil, harmonious people, and we are also thrifty, clean and brave!

P.S. - We like you, too GardenDove!

The trouble makers probably think we are boring.

I like it here. I"ve learned so much, and have been welcomed here even though I don't have a teacher's degree.

I haven't been to very many forums. I am a late bloomer. I have loved this one - I am kind of addicted! I went to Yahoo groups a couple of weeks ago. It was shocking! Lots of profanity and bigotry - I was just shocked because I have been so spoiled here. Lots of the posts there were good, but there is no warning, you can suddenly be faced with yucky stuff.

I think part of the reason this one works so well is because we all have such a passion for the same work.

Garden Dove, you always say such positive things. I like this forum, too. I went to city data forum for relocation information, boy are they mean sometimes! Even though both sites are "anonymous", I feel "safe" posting here--but not there, because of the respect issue. Even when we disagree, it works out. I guess that's why we keep coming back...

I've been to several other forums, so have some eclectic experience with discussion sites. This by far has the most civil and respectful tone to it, with virtually no noticable moderating. Many forums, frankly, have moderators who are on a weird power kick. I haven't seen a hint of that here. Or there's some political or religious agenda that warps the moderation. There's none of that apparent here. Also, here posters are nice to one another. I never read scathing sarcastic posts here. You guys are my kind of people! I don't detect grudges between posters either. There's something right about this place!

Not to mention his expertise with libations and hot tubs...

Seriously, the lesson that it's possible to disagree without being disagreeable is a very important one. I can't think of any dispute that is improved by getting snarky.

Mods here are just plain old (or young) teachers who posted a lot in a non-judgmental way. Not much different from most of the members, actually.

Amanda has done a fantastic job at keeping this site what it is. She has responded to many interests and needs over the years by adapting the forums and adding to the other areas, too.

Doc, dear, I won't dispute that you've taken your shots on AtoZ, but seems to me they've been much less across the bow than in a glass rimmed with salt.
