I had a final interview today for a middle school special ed position. Although they said many times that they are still deciding, the following went on:

    Filed out an I9
    submitted two forms of ID
    Discussed benefits and salary
Was asked if I was interviewing anywhere else

Is this typical for a final interview, or does making a decision just mean that they can't tel me just yet that they want to hire me?

No, to me, this is not typical of a final interview unless the job is "yours". When did they tell you they would let you know the outcome of the interview??

They may be waiting on formal district approval. I have had situations where the principal sent me home with handbooks, training materials, etc. then got word the district was transferring someone who was being cut from another school. Who knows.

They don't have to have a reason to let you go. Have you joined the Union?

It may not be wise to assume anything until you sign a contract.

That is odd. :) But it also sounds very promising.

She filled out forms but said there hasn't been a job offer yet so she hasn't signed a contract.

Unions don't generally contact new teachers until the school year begins.

To me, it sounds promising, but as everyone says, don't get your hopes up until you have a contract!
