It's going to be my first year teaching in a third grade classroom and I am stuck between three themes for the class and would love some input or new ideas. I am stuck between school color theme, an owl theme, or a Dr. Seuss theme.

    Thanks for any help!

Owls are cute, but everyone is doing owls nowadays!
Go with Dr Seuss!! That was one of the options that I was thinking about doing

My suggestion is to start off with a color theme and add in more graphic thematic elements as you go. Takes some of the pressure off. Last year I did a black/green/blue theme. This year I'm adding in some beach/ocean elements which go nicely with the colors I already have. If you go black/white/red it would be easy to add in Dr. Seuss later on (or ladybugs, a personal favorite).

I second the color theme advice.

Your classroom is your office. You and the students will "live" there for the school year.

My advise: Walk out of the classroom and back in. What do you see?

Color themes are great! You can add your personality to them.

Theme rooms are fun too! You can add a little of these to your color theme.

With the school construction paper, die cut machine, and laminating machine, you can do almost EVERYTHING with the color theme to match whatever whimsical theme you can think of to save money.

    Start with color theme

Since this is your first year of teaching, I think you should go with a mellow color theme at first. Having a maximum of two colors won't over stimulate your students while you set up your classroom management and routines.

You can add in another theme later. If you choose your colors carefully they'll tie right into your next theme. Dr. Suess can be added to almost any color, right?
