Hi teachers Does anyone have any popular thematic units that they like to use aside from the usual ones. It's easy to think of for lower elementary but I am looking for something to engage grade 4/5/6.
Are you a current teacher or student teacher? Or neither...? What subjects do you teach? I ask because it would help to have more information about your teaching environment. I teach upper elementary, but don't know of any upper elementary teachers using cross curricular themed units currently. Many teachers are departmentalized in upper elementary now, which makes themed units harder.
When I taught elementary, the upper level teachers were departmentalized, but based units around literature. Some popular books at the time were Holes and Hoot. I realize that dates me...
I did a unit last year on the refugee experience, using Alan Gratz' "Refugee" as a jumping off point. I incorporated History, Geography, and all strands of Literacy.
