So I got an educational supply magazine in the mail last night, and was flipping through it when I stopped cold at a product called 'The Writer's Block'. It was basically a cubed kleenex box with writing tips written on the outside and writing prompts on the inside. Students can reach in and grab a prompt when they are stuck. It even had the little frilly plastic where the kleenex is suppose to be sticking out, only it was neon green. Asking price: $20-some dollars. Yeah, right. So I got to work on making one today. If you go to the site below, it's the last project on the page (pretty much eye level). If you want to modify the sides, PM me and I'll send you the powerpoint version. I'm praying they are the right size-I had to have a friend e-mail me the measurements because we don't use cube boxes at my office. Anyhow, enjoy. Way cute idea, but not $20 cute. http://www.realclassroomideas.com/7.html
Gasp! I LOVE this. Thanks so much for sharing. Next year I'll be team teaching, and I'll be teaching reading and writing. I'll definitely be using this.
Awesome! I have some other good ideas I'm going to work on in the next few days. I'll post them each time. If anyone else has writing prompts for it, feel free to share.
Thank you! What grades are you creating it for? Some look much harder and some prompts easier. What was the range you thought of as you created it?
Eh, I just put all the prompts I had. I figured you could pick and choose. Some are more like journal prompts and some are more like creative writing/deep thinking prompts.
Haha-thanks. I woke up early this morning and laid in bed, and a journal idea came to me. I'm going to put a cover on my journals that say 'A Penny for Your Thoughts' and under that 'Take a moment each day to jot down your two cents', and then glue pennies on the cover. That's my idea of the day.
wow cute prompts! I'm totally snatching it up for my own classroom! (muahaha. 3rd grade teachers unite)
Very cute - thank you for sharing. I have a ton of Journal Jar prompts on my own site. Go to http://www.msjensenclass.com/Teacher_Resources/Teacher_Resources.htm and click on Literacy Station Ideas and you'll see Journal Jar prompts there.
