The last two threads I have read have been about teachers getting opportunities to maybe leave or be transferred "last minute" to teach a different grade, or teachers being hired and then leaving within minutes of signing their contract. This brings to mind the last two years for my school. Last year a teacher left the day before open house for her grade level to take a new position in another town. She had all ready done her home visits and everything. Luckily there was all ready "waiting" in the wings to take her place. Today our central office gets a resignation letter in the mail from another teacher. I am not sure what my principal is going to do. We have two days of inservice next week and then the next week is when we have our district inservice meetings. What I can't believe is that the one that left last year before school started has done it to her school again this year. She got a new job yesterday. Posted it all over facebook. The one that left today at my school I kind of suspected it all summer because she had a baby back in June, she had a long commute, and really was having a hard time fitting in to our school. I just don't get how they can in good faith leave their schools or contracts at this late date. I would never dream of it!
I would never dream of it either. Once I have made a commitment to something, that's it, I'm committed. Certainly family and health emergencies happen, but leaving for another (better?) job is not an emergency. In most places, the education world is very small and teachers who do this are not making a very good name for themselves.
Apparently, teacher 1 found out that she did not go to a "better" job the first time! Her antics are going to catch up with her and bite her in the butt. Then one of the teachers-in-waiting right here can snap up her job
I know what you mean. I turned down a promotion (math coach) last year because it was offered 1 week before the start of the school year. It was very hard to do since I've worked really hard for this opportunity but I didn't want to leave my principal in a tough position. At times I regret it but I have peace of mind knowing that I have good relationships with my current P and the P who offered me this job as she knows that I would not leave a job like that.
I would love to apply to a district closer to home and that pays more but we only have 2 wks bf school starts. At this point I feel I have to honor my commitment to my current district, it's just the right thing to do. Isn't there something on the apps that ask if you broke a contract?
I don't understand either... one of the threads you read was probably mine... haha. I got a call for an interview at a great district, a week after I accepted my position. I politely turned it down because I felt I needed to honor the commitment that I had already made.
