    Hello Everyone,

Does anyone have essay topics for the short story "The Cask of Amontillado?". My ninth graders are doing body paragraphs only so I need a simple topic that they can look to the story to find evidence.

To whom is Montressor telling his story?

What is the significance of the Montressor Family Crest? Motto?

It's been a long while since I've read the story, and I'm not an English teacher. Sorry, that's all I can think of.

Verbal irony: Find a place where Montresor doesn't mean what he says. How do you know?

What is Fortunato's weakness? Why does it make him susceptible to
    Montresor's plan?

For something more creative: Do you think Montresor is guilty (aware of what he was doing) or innocent (due to being crazy)? Support with evidence.

Give them the list of 7 Deadly Sins and have them identify which character commits which sins.

Thank you both very much. Dovian these are exactly what I needed. My students are loving the story so far and this is going to be a great way to incorporate all we have discussed!
