They are grown enough to be independent but not so grown that they don't enjoy little kid stuff still. For instance, I make my 100s into happy faces. For some reason, I left the 100s without happy faces on one assignment and I don't know how many sophomores wanted to know where their happy face was. And ditto on the content. I'm struggling to find stuff in the 7th and 8th grade lit book that doesn't bore me.
The kids, old enough so you don't have to deal with the baby stuff but young enough to still need help and guidance.
Having taught at a junior college and now in elementary, I definitely disagree with this. To each his own. But I could do without the vomit that has happened twice in my room this week!
You get to see a small glimpse of the adults they will become...And, I also love that I know that I will most likely be remembered and I have noticed I get thanked a LOT more from both students and parents.
The students generally have some sense of personal responsibility at this age, and you have the opportunity to have a greater impact on their life as a role-model and in their future career choices.

more fun I can relate better with them. However coming from a different country, I find hard to understand the "silly attitudes that HS students have around here. Back home, the students were even more mature. The parents would't overprotect them as some of the parents do at my school where I teach. It is different than what I expected, but it helps me learn more about the culture here. It explains a lot of things to me that I didn't understand previous my teaching career. .
