Hello, I was wondering if anyone had a cute writing idea for Thanksgiving? Maybe a narrative, or expository writing. I just can't seem to think of anything. I want to do something that is fun and cute to hang up. I have a 3rd grade class. Thanks!

I am the worlds worst at creative writing but here goes. Maybe you could have them write If I were at the first Thanksgiving I would.... or something along that line. Of course they may just finish the sentence like I would have at that age and not write anymore.

We are making a book that is in layers.
    I am thankful for...

First page has a circle cut out
    I am thankful for...
Second page is cut out in waves to look like green grass
I am thankful for the green grass.
    Etc.
I wish I had the website, but I don't. Maybe someone does?

One year I had 3rd graders write up recipes with cooking instructions for their favorite Thanksgiving foods. They were hysterical.

Thats a good idea, did they make up their own recipe? Or did they research them?

They all really thought they knew how their parents cooked the foods! So they wrote from their own heads. That's why it was so funny.

    You could have them...
    write recipes
    become a turkey
    become a pilgrim/native american
    ride on the Mayflower
become a turkey that is on the run so they won't get eaten

I ST in 3rd, and taught about point of view. I read them the True Story of the Three Little Pigs (Jon Sciezca sp?) and we wrote the True Story of Thanksgiving, by A. Turkey. They were hilarious!

I teach persuasive writing and the kids have to choose a side, "why or why not to eat turkey on Thanksgiving". It was so cute because they did it from many different perspectives...ie, the turkey!

My friend has her students make a list of all the things they are thankful for. Then they prioritize the list from 1-10.

3 things I am thankful for

2 of my favorite Thanksgiving foods

1 thing I plan to do on my time off

This sounds like a great idea! I think I am doing to steal that one. :)
