Does everyone have their Thanksgiving menu set? Are you making anything out of the norm? I'd love to find something interesting to make that's not the usual. Last year I didn't cook much because it was just dinner for me and my husband and the last 10 years before that we were going out to eat at a local historic inn that had a sumptuous buffet. I'm going to try to recreate some of their dishes but would love some new ideas.

I jokingly suggested Chinese food to my hubby because I didn’t feel like cooking so now we’ve added egg rolls to the menu. Other than that small Turkey breast, small ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, yams, deviled eggs, and Mac & cheese.

Egg rolls! I want egg rolls for Thanksgiving! :)

I think it would be fun to recreate some of the dishes you had in the past. What a great idea!

We are doing all normal stuff here except my mother-in-law is bringing vinegar-based cole slaw. It is unexpectedly refreshing to have with all of the other traditional hot and heavy food.

I suggested it jokingly/sarcastically, and my significant other being the smarta— he is, added it to the menu. Not only that, he cleared it with everyone and his mom even said “oh that’ll be cute!”

Traditional Thanksgiving dinner- turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry, salad, and rolls. No pie. Hate store bought and I don’t feel like baking one.

I've made them as appetizers lots of times. They aren't hard to make and everyone loved them!

I'll probably make a pumpkin pie but I'd rather have something else so I'll have to think about it.

We are having turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, glazed carrots, rolls, and pumpkin pie. I am making dinner and we invite my husband's parents but they never come, so it will be my husband, our 2.5 year old, our 1 month old (obviously not eating), and myself.

I'd rather cook myself so I know what I'm getting. My mother in law is a terrible cook so we'd end up starving lol
My mom has dinner with her siblings but at least when we had dinner at her house we knew we'd get something good.

When we go to her house for any holiday or even a BBQ I have to bring my own food LOL
For Christmas Eve she makes her special seafood dishes but i don't like seafood so I bring a my Christmas Eve pizza that I've been making for the last 25 years so at least I have an excuse then LOL

Turkey, mac and cheese, hashbrown casserole, rolls, blackeyed peas, and of course stuffing. My wife asked me what kind of pie I wanted last night, and it's a tough choice between pecan and apple. She is an amazing cook--kind of getting hungry just thinking about it. :D

One of my guests does not like pumpkin pie so I'm also serving affogato. I was trying to think of something more interesting than pumpkin pie anyway. At the restaurant we usually go to they ahve apple bread pudding, creme brulee and lots of other options.

Still haven't gone grocery shopping yet:p I'm going to brave the long lines tomorrow afternoon.
My theory is that everyone else is shopping and cooking ahead of time that the grocery stores will actually be less crowded if I wait till the day before;)

I know. Prices are definitely up:(
However, I'm not cooking for a huge crowd or planning on leftovers so hopefully it won't be too bad. I do have some basic staples already, so I'm not starting from scratch.

I bought all the traditional family dinner items.
    • turkey breast
    • cornbread dressing
    • sweet potato casserole
    • Lima beans
    • mashed potatoes
    • gravy
    • rolls
    • Apple pie
Then went a dinner invitation from the parents of DSS’s SO, and we are going there. My stuff is still in the freezer or not made yet, so I,l save it for Christmas.

I braved the store after work this afternoon (we had a half day). It was more crowded than usual but not too bad!
The only thing on my list I couldn't find was canned cranberry sauce. They had it, I just didn't like the brand they carried. So I will have to make do without it this year.

I had a longer wait at the bank today, actually lol.

I bought cranberry sauce in the can as soon as I saw it on the shelf back in September. I get a specific organic brand and it sells out quickly. My husband's family eats it but I make my own which is so much better anyway. I wouldn't have been sad if they were sold out LOL

It definitely tastes better when you make it from scratch! We had a big Egyptian thanksgiving with a lot of turkey and meats, but I am still trying to work off the calories. :p

I’m always a traditionalist with Thanksgiving food. Last year we spend Thanksgiving with DSS’s partner’s family. They split up last spring, so it’s just the three of us here this time.
    • turkey breast
    • cornbread dressing
    • mashed potatoes
    • lima beans
    • cranberry sauce
    • gravy
    • pumpkin mousse tarts
    • rolls
    • deviled eggs
Then we eat leftovers for a couple of days.

We always make dinner and invite all family to come (my parents if they are in the area, my husband's parents, my husband's sister). My parents will come some years, my in laws never come (and then b**** that they don't get to see the kids...). I am making:
    *Turkey
    *dressing
    *mashed potatoes and gravy
    *corn
    *green bean casserole
    *dinner rolls
    *pumpkin pie

I'm making my favorite thing this year for Thanksgiving. Reservations!!
We're going to our favorite Thanksgiving feast a local inn. Unfortunately, we heard they have changed management so there's a chance the dinner won't be as good as last time. I'm crossing my fingers! For me, even a mediocre dinner out is better than me cooking and cleaning up the dishes myself.

My inlaws never had green bean casserole so when I told them I was making it they freaked out. My BIL is very picky with vegetables and made a face at it when it was served. He ended up trying it and ate half the pan.

I have never had green bean casserole either. We always did Lima beans instead of green beans. I’m not sure how they because our thanksgiving staple.

My former in-laws always ate out on Thanksgiving. My MIL only ever cooked on Christmas Day. Then it wasn’t even very good because she was so out of practice with cooking. They ate out every meal.

My MIL is getting older so her cooking quality has diminished. If we ever go to her house for a meal I usually bring most of the food. I am someone who only goes out to eat for special occasions and cooks every other day so I feel like I deserve a night off for Thanksgiving

Green Bean Casserole has always been a staple for my family. One of the first years I was with my now husband we went to his parents house to make dinner and I brought it. His mother b****ed about it the entire day saying how gross it is and how she doesn't see how anyone can eat it and just going on and on (and never would try it). We haven't gone back to their house for Thanksgiving, but we do invite them to our house so they can't say we don't.
