    1. There is a glut of math teachers even here in California. I was already looking for non-teaching jobs, and I just got my preliminary teaching credential last May.

    2. I have applied to around 40 jobs since April. The interview I did yesterday was my fourth, but it went really well. Besides, I like interviews just like Aliceacc. Tell them anecdotes or stories when answering questions. Late afternoon yesterday (the same day I did the interview), I got a call offering me the job -high school math teacher. The director said the panel was impressed with the interview, but I consider this a miracle.

    3. I thank TeacherGroupie, with the help of Aliceacc again, in almost literally preparing my cover letter. I also thank so many posters here for the excellent inputs. I have not been posting regularly lately, but there is not a day where I don't check this forum.

    4. This will be my first job as a new credentialed teacher. I got a job last year on an intern credential, but I don't recommend that one should teach as an intern for so many reasons.

    5. Don't lose hope. Something will come.

Hi, Mathemagician. I don't know yet, probably either Algebra 1 or 2 or geometry. I taught these subjects before, so it will be easier this time around.

    Thanks to all your congrats.

Thanks Aliceacc. Most probably Algebra 1 and geometry. The best part of this teaching job is that I won't teach no more than 20 students in a classroom. Last year, there was a time where I had more than 40 students in a class.

Our classes typically run in the mid to high 30's, though I've taught as many as 45 at a time. It's a lot of things, but it's not dull.

That's a lot for a newbie to handle - classroom management-wise, although you teach in a Catholic school where normally students are relatively more well-behaved. And also, you can teach math even while asleep. So, that's a big plus.

    Thanks to all of you.

Looking at the job market which I still continue to monitor, I am really blessed to have landed a job. A classmate of mine who has a masters, which I don't have, a university soccer coach, and was hired to teach summer school still does not have a job for the coming school year. He has three interviews so far.

Yet, to the rest, don't lose hope because last year they hired me a week before class started (last week of August), and I was only an intern.
