    Worried

I took the Texes SPED 161 test last night. I received a 86/120. I looked over this tread and people who received a 70/120 passed. However, I am worried because someone also posted that all tests are scored differently. Is there reason for me to panic??? Or should I feel okay about my score?

There are no guarantees, of course, but over 70% is generally going to be a passing score.

I just took it on Wednesday and I must say that it wasn't that bad. Basically, you will narrow almost every answer down to 2, and pick the one that is more student centered. I made a 60/80 which translated to a 251. I am completely through with testing, Thank God. You will do fine, so go ahead and take it soon.

    Spd 161 TExES test

I have been studying for this test and I have a few questions for those who have taken it already.
I have taken the Gen EC-4 and PPR EC-12. I would like to know if this test follows the same scenario format.

I am taking this test on Friday, and I do not want to waste time on being picky about exact definations / profiles and exact law/dates and such if I do not need to be.

I am also wondering if the test has caught up to the changes in LD qualifications or not. Any ideas would be helpful. Mi-:help:

I passed with a 70, which translated to a 244, so that 65 is kinda cutting it close. But you never know, just pray that you got a really difficult test and it would weigh differently. I scored a 66 on 4-8 gen and it also came out to a 244, but that test was extremely difficult.

    161

    Hello everyone,

I am starting from scratch, no Teaching or Special Ed experience, basically a Business background for the last 10 years. I would like to know which study guides and materials did you use and have success on this test. I am looking forward to this journey!!!!

    Malcom,

I think you will do just fine. I didn't study too much. I just skimmed through my study book. I found the choices to be kind of obvious once you narrow them down. I passed on my first try. Good luck.

    Help please!!!!

I am taking the Spec. Ed test tomorrow morning, and would like to know some things before I go. Can anyone who has taken it recently tell me if it has any questions about specific illnesses? Like the practice test asks what the symptoms of a child going in diabetic shock would be? Anything like that? And also is there anyone who has taken the 4-8 Gen and passed and if so how is it compared to the Spec Ed test (I took the 4-8 Gen and passed that one with a 266). I am just not finding a job with my Elementary or Middle School certification so I just want to add Spec Ed. to make myself more marketable to school districts. Any information anyone can offer would be great!!!!!

I would be happy to share study tips. Basically i studied the Prep Manuel on the Texes website as well as http://www.tea.state.tx.us/special.ed/ardguide/. Between those two I didn't study anything else, but i had already passed the ec-4 and 4-8 gen so I knew that stuff already. If you need to study for those use the cliff notes books.

I suppose someone could get unofficial passing results that are later disconfirmed by the official report - but I've never heard of that actually happening.

Aw, cgutierrez, that's hard. How close did you come to passing?

I'm not familiar with TExES score reports, but when the official one arrives, take a look at it and see if there's anything on it that indicates areas in which you scored higher vs. areas in which you scored lower.

Is there anything specific that a person should be prepared for when taking the Sp. Ed EC-12 exam? For example I know that LA is a huge portion of the test. Does the test have a lot of classroom scenarios involving LA? I've noticed that quite a few people on this thread have bought the CD from CertifyTeacher.Com and it has worked for them. I'm using my Special Education books in addition to reading the 2004 IDEA law and the EC-4 book by Nann.

    hi anouk,
I'm using Nann for language/reading/math, the ARD guide, the 13 eligibilities & their characteristics and assorted special education handouts plus some focusing on fape, nclb, etc

when do you give your test?

Goodluck to you too. I just moved my test date to the 13th of July, theres too much going on just now.

I am focusing heavily on ELA and the book 'Put Reading First'. Reading through disabilities, Sped laws, ARD, IEPs etc. What are you doing for math? Im a bit nervous about that part. What practice tests are you taking? I have several tests from different certification programs and books that I am taking along with those on the texes webpage.

I will begin interviewing once I pass :)
