Thanks for the kind words! I guess all I can do is wait. I had an interview this morning and they want to hire me right now.... all I need is a passing TExES score and I am hired!

Again, good luck!!! Can you recall how you did in the LA section (it is one of the four they break down on the report) If you were strong your chances are better. That is one of the biggest point areas.

I just called SBEC to find out when I can take the TExES again JUST incase I did not pass....on hold for 1 hour and still nobody answering. Does anyone know if there is a waiting period for re-takes? I took the CAT.

I would expect the TExES Web site to say something about that, on the page about obtaining scores or possibly on the registration page.

90 days, but I think you may be able to take the PBT sooner, go to your ETS page (your account) and try to register for the PBT and if the dates are pretty soon then the loophole worked, thoerwise you will have to wait 90 days to retake!!!!!!

You have to wait ninety days to retake TExES tests? That's a bit silly, unless the exams aren't offered any more often than that.

Honestly we should be able to be hired on for 6 month probationary period if we fail the TExES just so long as we pass it during that time.

Well, the trouble is, "What happens if the probationary hire keeps on not passing?" And districts are unsurprisingly skittish about having to send home that letter about one's child's teacher being Not Highly Qualified.

Catluver, please rest assured that district hire throughout the year, especiall Sped which has a high burn out rate!!! In the meantime maybe try Early intervention Services see if they are hiring. Same feild different age, but more experience!!!

TeahGroupie, you are right about the the school districts!
hdmeza, good advice! I am still hopeful that I passed the confounded thing! I am eyeballing the pbt on august 4... maybe I can leap through the "loophole" if I fail this one... I think I need a diversion like maybe chocolate or wine or a Johnny Depp movie... ahhhhh all three! yes...

Slept like a baby! I am headed to work today! Working with juvenile sex-offenders really keeps ones mind occupied!

I took the Texes last night and got an 83. Based on the passing scores am reading here, I'm assuming I passed.:)

After reading this, I purchased the program from certifyteacher.com and used it as a study guide along with the Texes manual.

    Good luck to everyone!

If others have passed with lower scores, your chances are pretty good.

Skyline, a 70 may have passed, but as you may have read the scores are weighted so there really is no gaurantee. Many people have scores in the upper 60's and passed, some that scored around 70 barely squeaked by. So my don't lose hope, but wait to celebrate.
If you score strongly on the Language arts porion you have a better chance. It is the largest and most valuable

Catluver, try to go online and register for PBT if it shows August $, then it worked, if not, htne it may be the other PBT to CAT. It can't hurt only takes a minute online to check.

Sorry to hear, I know you are heartbroken right now, but now you know the style and complexity, you'll get it next time!!!

All you need is to get 63 right to pass. I know because I passed with 69 right. I called my advisor right after to ask her and she told me start celebrating!!!

catluver Good luck in August, and note to all , i took it at UH, and the room was tiny and packed, it was a little rough, and i took me the entire time, i had a really hard time with CAT , I think being able to scratch out wrong answers what something I was soo used too, and it made it alot easier, but when your running low on time to get a job, the CAT is def. the better way to go !

    WONDERING!!

I have taken the SPED EC-12 test 3 times and still failed. I am trying to receive a job for August, so the August exam has to be my exam. However, I am wondering do anyone know the strategy for answering the scenario questions? I know that this is area where I am struggling at. Better yet, do anyone know a better way that I can study Domain I and II because these are the biggest areas that we must BANK out in. Can someone help? On the brighter side, I increase my score everytime I take it, last time I was 2 question from passing it, sooooooooo THIS IS MY TIME!

Houston area - preparation guide for TExES SPED EC-12?

    Houston-area folks,

Does anyone in the Houston area have a copy of the practice exam/preparation guide for the TExES Special Education EC-12 that they aren't using this weekend? I'd be willing to pay money for the use of it over the weekend. I'm just moved here from Iowa and thought that I could just pick up a copy at a local bookstore and found out that it isn't that easy.

I also heard about the certifyteacher downloadable guide but it doesn't work on Macs :-S I just spent a total of $100 for two other guides I found on-line but one didn't even have practice questions and the other's practice questions weren't of the quality and difficulty that I know the TExES exams are capable of (I just took the Generalist EC-4 this week - a study guide for that wasn't nearly as difficult to find).

If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it - I take the exam on Monday afternoon. Or if anyone just wants to study together - with or without a prep guide - that would be helpful too.

    Thanks!

    Special Ed EC-12 Exam

    Houston,

What was your final weighted score? Did you pass? Please advise as I have a friend who had the same score.

    Thanks.
