I am certified to teach in Oklahoma, but now I've moved to Texas. I've been teaching Spanish for 5 years now. I can't seem to pass the LOTE test. I miss the passing grade by 3 or 5 points. I struggle with the Listenning portion, and the writing in Spanish. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
I have gone over the preparation manual multiple times, I've taken the online pedagogy course online, I have been studying and reading about the history and cultural aspects over Spanish speaking countries. I seem to have a difficult time understanding the listening portion of the test. I always score between a 15 -18 on that. I scored a 20 on the reading comprehension, my lesson plans are always perfect, as well as the writing portion in English. I always get a 12 out if 18 on the writing portion in Spanish, this is where I struggle also.
You might be coming up a little short on academic Spanish, Norma Jones. A prep book for AP Spanish might help, or perhaps a book on composition for an advanced college-level Spanish class.
I think you are right . Do you happen to know the authors or titles of any good books on composition for an advanced college- level Spanish class? Also, do you think libraries have AP Spanish resources available?
Will libraries have AP Spanish preparation resources available? I'd bet on it, and I'd expect any decent book to help with the kind of writing you need for your test. You could also look for AP Spanish websites: many teachers maintain websites for their classes and post good resources. As to a book, I don't have specific recommendations. Amazon's page for the textbook Spanish Composition through Literature notes that this book exists in earlier (and now cheaper) editions and also suggests some alternatives. You could also visit the local university bookstore and see what books are being required for Spanish composition classes. It's always a good idea, where possible, to look at a book before committing money or much time to it. The book that works for someone else may not be right for you.
Do you have email so I can send you methods and strategies because I am struggling as well but in the PPR test.
Hi, there! I am taking the test in April and would love to chat about your tips. How can I contact you?
Hello, is there anyone on this thread able to update us on the test, as in if you finally passed or have any suggestions?
Hello Lisa, Good luck! I am also taking the test in April, this Saturday coming up, as a matter of fact.
Hello everybody, I am taking the test on Saturday, April 14th. I am the most concern about the pedagogy and the lesson plan. How is the lesson plan graded? Does it count for a big portion of the score? Thanks!
Hello Miguel, I am taking my LOTE in June, I wanted to know if I could email you so that I can ask you some questions since you just recently took it. Let me know if this is okay? I would greatly appreciate it!
Hi Norma Did you ever pass the LOTE 613 if so what was your secret. I have taken 3 times now lastest score 237 and am considering a review of my test scores. I don't agree with my lesson plan English essay score or Spanish email score. This test is really inconsistent on how they score your speaking and writing sections.
Hello everyone, I am taking my LOTE 613 Spanish Exam 04/20/2019. I am taking the practice exam now and feel confident in my comprehension and oral skills. I am practicing writing the lesson plan (this has to written in Spanish, correct?) and reviewing rules regarding accents. However I feel a little lost with the theory portion. I am using several Quizlets and other linguist guides I have found online but I'm not sure where to narrow it down to. Any suggestions from people who have taken the test (passed or failed)? Thanks in advance
Good afternoon! I know you posted some years ago. I really need your help. I took the 613 Spanish test one month ago and I didn't pass it, I got a score of 232 out of 240, and I struggle with my lesson plan and the essay, I'll take the Spanish 613 test the next month October, and I was wondering if you can help me with some tips or maybe you have some lesson plan. Could you please give me your email? thank in advance!
How did your exam go? I also struggle with the lesson plan. Can you share any tips that helped you? I need to sign up for the exam since I failed it the first time and I'm nervous. Aside from the lesson plan, the oral section is my other weak spot. I have test anxiety and speaking with others in the room only increases my anxiety. I have utilized the certify teacher practice exam and seem to do all right. if anyone can send other tips, it would be greatly appreciated.
Hola Jimena! Have you passed your test yet? I will have to take it for the 3rd time and I’m having trouble with the pedagogy and lesson plan section.
Hi everyone, my name is Claudia, new to A to Z teacher stuff. I have a question, does anyone have taken the LOTE 613 recently? if so, it is a new test or about the same logic as the ones before. I have taking it 4 four time and haven't been able to pass. The last time I took it I miss by 4 points. Does anyone have any strategies to pass the LOTE.
Hi, I just failed too by 2 points, I am a native speaker and I have a BA and a MA in Spanish and I am getting my PhD in Spanish linguistics right now so I can probably speak better than they do and they refused to give me 100% in the speaking and written part of the test, they claimed some grammatical errors but I speak it perfectly and at the PhD level!!! Anyhow, I did low on the lesson plan and on the pedagogy part, those are the parts I will be focusing on right now just in case if I do not do perfect on other areas, I can pass by getting a better score on the pedagogy and lesson plan parts but I was wondering if paying for a score review is worth it or a waste of money.
