ESL Supp#154 I just took the test on Saturday at Austin High School in Sugarland Texas, and to be honest, the material was not similar to anything that I studied. I am not sure how I did. I should mention that this was my second time taking it. I did not study at all the first time and scored a 237, I needed 240 to pass. I studied the ESL Study Guide (The box set) and felt good about how much I learned. When I got to the test, there was a lot of stuff that I had not covered. I do not feel any better after this test. And if you are wondering, no the test was not the same.
Well, I got my results back and I passed with a 269 which averages to a 90! I completely agree about the study guide not covering much of the material. I found myself wondering if I was taking the right test at times! Best wishes for all who take it and make sure you have ice cream to eat when you get home.
I passed! I am so happy, I did not think I was going to make it, but I did. Go HISD and lets go 3rd Grade TAKS!
I took the ESL Supplemental EC-4 today and my raw score was 49/60. I'm wondering for those who have passed the test, what was your raw score?
If you're wondering whether you passed, yamaha_flutist, calculate the percentage. For most of the teacher tests with which I'm acquainted, 75% and up is reliably passing.
Ahem: like I said, please breathe. Getting all antsy about the results isn't going to make them arrive any faster.
Hi yamaha_flutist, Did you pass the ESL Supplemental with 49/60? I took the test today and scored a 51/60 and am wondering if I passed. Thanks!
It would surprise and shock me to find 51/60 a non-passing score - that's 85%, which is passing (and then some) on all the teacher tests with which I'm personally acquainted. Keep us posted, please, AronJones.
rguy3, we haven't seen 3rd_Grade_Rules on A to Z since August; it's likely that someone else will have to answer that question. By the way, welcome (back) to A to Z!
I too am planning on taking this exam soon and am looking for ideas on study materials. Thanks, wannateachtx
Dunno whether you'll find prep books specific to this test, but books by Lynne Diaz-Rico for California's CLAD or CTEL examinations should serve you well.
Someone whose judgment I trust has indicated that the third edition of Diaz-Rico & Weed's Cultural, Linguistic and Academic Diversity Handbook is outstanding not only as prep for tests of this kind but also in terms of raising issues that are important in the ESL classroom. Since the test for which they wrote the book is no longer packaged under that name, you might be able to find the book for cheap. The second edition is evidently not as good, however.
I took the test this afternoon and got a 50/60. I will post my score when it arrives via email in the next few days.
If you're fairly satisfied that you've covered what's in the online study guide, Teachling, I think you'll come out fine.
I have used three study sources, NABE.org web site among others, flash cards, three practice exams for a total of about 170 ques. I don't know if I can get any more prepared than that. I just want to get it done & move on to the next phase.
I passed the ESL test with a raw score of 50/60 and a scaled score of 278. Since the middle of January I have taken: PPR-287 Special Ed- 283 Gen EC-4 276 I am so happy to finally be certified in Texas! I now can teach in IL and TX!!!!
Study Guides I am taking this test in August and was wondering what specific study guides people have used? I have downloaded the one from TEA's site. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hello, I am going to take ESL Supplemental CAT next Tuesday (07/15) and I was wondering if I will get my scores (any type) right after I finish my test ... I took the PPR EC-12 on 06/27 (Friday)and my scores were sent to me by e-mail on Tuesday. However, my English Language Arts/Reading 4-8 PBT score, which I took on 06/21 , has still not come. Does anyone have any tips for the ESL Supplemental test regarding articles/books to read? Vania
I don't have anything specific to your test, but materials for California's CTEL exam might be helpful: you'll find some in various threads on this subforum.
I have taken the EC-4 Generalist Exam and now want to get ESL certified. Do I take the ESL Supplemental #154 test? Thanks!
Can you take the ESL Supplemental without having any classes in ESL? The problem I am having is the problem with being highly qualified without the appropriate classwork.
I took this test on Thursday... there were VERY FEW questions that I was sure about the answer. The testing center no longer gives out even your raw score... so I'm left having no idea about how I did. I felt like I was guessing a lot...
Hmmm... smalltowngal, what do you think accounts for you having no problem with this test? What have you learned and done?
I've taken and passed the EC-4 and 4-8 generalist exams with the English section being my best section. I spoke to the teachers at the school that I work at and they all said the ESL test is similiar to the English section and the test wasn't too difficult. But I don't think the test was similar to the English sections at all! The test was definitely a struggle... but the EC-4 test was a struggle too and I passed, so hopefully this test turns out the same. I'm worried. It's an expensive test to have a re-take
I'm guessing, darlibby, that there are concepts in the ESL test that resemble concepts in the English test, and that what they have in common will in large measure be linguistics, or at least comprehensible from the point of view of linguistics.
Congratulations, darlibby! Don't forget to reward yourself for your accomplishment - nobody ever passed one of these things solely by luck.
I am taking the texes esl #154 test tomorrow. I purchased a program from the website certifyteacher.com. My alternative program uses this program to help you study for the PPR. I have been using it a few days to get ready for the esl and it has haled sooooo much. It has practice tests where they actually score you on all 90 questions and tell you why you got them wrong. quizzes with shorter amount of questions and 145 flashcards! I hope it helps...Ill let everyone know! Has anyone else used this?
