What score do you need to pass?

Hello! Congrats on passing the 102! What score did you get? How many questions of the the 60 did you get correct?

I am scheduled to take the exam next week.

    Thank you!

    UOTE=littlebit18000;578893]Hi,

I took the 102 and passed. I though it was easier than 101.
My suggestion would be to go to your public library and see what books they have to study for the 102, if you can't find any get the 103 so you can study the bilingual portion.

Know your vocabulary and history .
Its not as hard as everybody says it is, I didnt study a lot just the vocab, because if you dont know it then one word can really make you or break you.[/QUOTE]

If you can you to your nearest public library and get it.

TExES (103) Bilingual Generalist, EC-4 (REA) - The Best Test Prep
    by Luis A.Rosado

Its really great, you wont be using the whole book but just the first 50 pages for the bilingual portion.

I used that book, it has everything from the history to the court cases, alot of vocabulary too.

    Good Luck

If there are other books as well, take some time to examine all of them, and choose the one that seems to work best for what you need and how you learn.

For those who have passed this test, I would be interested in knowing what your raw score was. I just would like to have an idea of the passing raw score. Thx

I am sorry to say, but yesterday they gave me a new computer at work and deleted my old docs, including the power point.

My friend has my old study guides, she just passed the 102.
I will get them from her and e-mail u the vocabulary u need so that will help u out.

People, we don't post private emails on A to Z: one doesn't want a big bad spambot getting hold of your email and either broadcasting it or (worse) broadcasting through it.

    EC-4 Bilingual TEXES

Hello I will be taking my 103 test on November 8th. I took a practice test at Region IV....it had a lot of questions for preschoolers ....what are the best recomendations we can give for parents of this age group who want to help their children succeed or advance at a faster rate in a topic like writing for example...thank you.

teachtex, once you've made a few posts on this and other forums, you'll be able to send PMs. Here's one way:

Find a post by the person to whom you want to send the PM. You'll notice the person's username is in blue: that's a link. Clicking it brings up a menu of options. One of these, once you've got enough posts under your belt, will be "Send a private message to ____". Click that, then follow the instructions.

You're welcome, teachtex. Have you had a good look at the test standards that are included as part of the free study guide on the TExES Web site?

Yes I have. I have been trying to find more material though, like a study guide. The Ultimate Study Guide for TExES (yellow book) really helped me prepare for the EC-4 Generalist test, so I wanted to find something similar for the bilingual supplement. Any suggestions?

Specifically for TExES, no; but for the cultural and linguistic diversity issues, you might want to look at materials for California's CLAD and CTEL exams; someone whose judgment I trust (and who had to take CTEL) has recommended Diaz-Rico & Weed's Cultural, Linguistic and Academic Diversity Handbook, 3rd ed., as a resource that should be in the hands of every teacher. You might be able to find that edition used, since the test is no longer given under that name, or you could look for some of Lynn Diaz-Rico's later books.

I have taken the Texes EC-4 generalist 6 times and have come close to passing but I am frustrated and decided to take the Texes EC-4 bilingual generalist. But I dont know what exactly to study besides the regular material for the generalist. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it.

People say that it is easier to take the EC-4 Generalist and then take the Bilingual Supplement afterwards. That is what I did, for the Generalist I used Nath's book, and for the bilingual supplement I used the first part of the book by Rosado. You can PM me if you have any specific questions.

    Bilingual 103

I took the 101 first then the 102.

For the supplement bilingual I bought Bilingual Master. It guaranteed 100% money back if you didn't pass. I am happy to say I did. I would suggest buying it if you are having a hard time passing the 102. It will also help you with passing the bilingual portion of the 103.

I don't mean to ask a silly question...

I don't speak Spanish at all, but if I take the bilingual test and pass it, I still cannot teach bilingual classes, correct? In bilingual classes, the teacher speaks to the students in Spanish and English, right?

There's probably also a language proficiency exam that you'd have to pass to teach bilingual classes. I'm not Tejano, so I don't know which it is.

An ESL teacher needn't know much about the kids' primary language(s), but in most bilingual classes I'm acquainted with, both English and another language are in use and so the teacher is expected to be fluent in both; very often some test is involved. You might want to check to be sure that isn't the case here.
