What kind of work do you give your students after they've taken a standardized test in the morning? Do you resume regular classes with reading, writing, and quizzes, or do you do a plan fun activities to take their minds off testing? I'm planning to do project-based work all week.
We head to the playground for a breather...I flip the monkey bars each day for my class...they're already after me about it and our test is more than a month away.... In the afternoon, I do hands on math stuff...our first two days are LA, so we try to keep our 'math brains primed' in anticipation for the last two days.
My class continues with our novel after testing every day. We plan it that way because the kids always love The Outsiders.
I think a fun, light project-based activity is a good idea. Maybe something collaborative that would allow them to be creative and move around a bit. When I taught middle school, during testing week, I had my students create rap songs (in groups) about a president of their choice. They worked outside and I let them play ball after they had completed some work.
I typically start my "end of the year" novels, so my 7th graders will be starting Island of the Blue Dolphins and my 12th graders will be reading Pride and Prejudice.
We give the students some recess (which they normally don't get) and then have lighter lessons...projects can be great choices!

We don't do much after testing. We give an extra recess and my grade usually has rehearsal for their musical. Any extra time is filled watching a movie or playing educational computer games. My principal's theory is they work so hard in the morning, give them a break in the afternoon.
