Ok. I usually cannot resist beginning the school year with apples. I have tons of apple projects and inquiries that are really fun and the kids enjoy them and learn a lot. Plus lots of great artwork for apples.

This year I am looping, so have to figure out all new themes for the year. Has anyone ever begun the year with a Teddy Bear theme?

Any ideas? Any book suggestions, or activity suggestions? My first thought is to include in my Welcome letter "Be sure to bring your favorite Teddy Bear to school for the first week's activities." I also hope to include a Teddy Bear Tea or picnic.

    What do you think?

Great idea. There are lots of books about bears: The Bear went over the mountain. You can do a lot with the things he sees.

I don't have any wonderful ideas, but if you search the net, I get you will come up with plenty.

My kids love the story of President Roosevelt and the story of how the teddy bear got it's name.

You can also do Going on a Bear Hunt and then do the spin off book related to it about picking books and then discuss how to pick just right books. IDK, but I just read that in either Daily 5 or in Interactive Read Alouds- it sounded so great, I am planning on doing it. My theme for next year will be bears because that is all the decorations I bought at dollar tree about 2 or 3 months ago- I couldn't resist so it is my new theme.

You could have the bear cave as your library and have teddy bears or bear pillows in this area.

You could have the students make bear footprints.

Do something with berries (bear food): paint, snack, etc.

    B.E.A.R. Binder-Bring Everything Always Ready
Paw stickers-our teacher store has tons of these in every color and size
Bear ABC's-I cut out bear shapes and glued letters to them-they look like Teddy Grahams
    Class Rule-BEAR=Be Encouraging and Responsible
    Enjoy your beary good theme!!!!!
