Teaching Preparation Program - Internship Pathway!

I have three years of full-time teaching experience at an accredited private school. I want to pursue the Single Subject Teaching Credential through the internship pathway.

I have a couple of questions regarding the requirements and possible waivers:

  1. Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA): Given my prior teaching experience, would I still be required to complete the TPA, or is there a provision to waive this requirement?
  2. Program Component Waivers: Are there any components of the preparation program that I might be eligible to waive in light of my four years of teaching experience?
  3. Program Completion: As I have more than 3 years of teaching experience in a private school, I can waive the student teaching component of the teacher preparation program. Does that mean – It will take less than 2 years to complete the program??

You're better off contacting the certification department of a local college or state university since most of us here are probably in a different state as you and there are definitely differences within each state's education department. For instance, I've never heard of a TPA.

Lucky you. I had to pilot edTPA. It was awful- 40 pages of unclear instructions, video-recording a lesson, submitting student work samples, reflections and I don't even remember what else. The worst part is that even though I had to do it, I didn't get credit and don't even know if I passed because the pilot group never got scores.

These are all question you'll need to ask the local credential analyst at the County Office of Education.
