    Hello all!

The three 5th grade teachers in my school are going to be ability grouping for reading only and I am going to take the kids who are the least proficient in reading. I think that I need to go back to phonics because a lot of these kids don't have the basic phonic skills. Any thoughts, ideas, or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am really nervous about this, though I will have the resource teacher coming in to help me, I don't want to fail these kids.

We've used phonics in 5th grade for those students that needed it. They did not get the basic skills to build upon, so it was much needed. The hardest part we found was finding materials that didn't look baby-ish. Good luck!
