in the very near future, I am going to be interviewing with one of the "alternate route" teaching fellows programs in which qualified applicants teach in high-need, urban schools while simultaneously earning their teaching certifications. the interview includes: 1. a 5-minute sample lesson by each of the 10-12 applicants present. 2. a discussion amongst applicants about several articles that are to be reviewed prior to the interview. 3. a written response activity to a question that will be presented at the interview. 4. a one-on-one interview with a teaching fellows interviewer. I'm looking for any general advice or tips that people might be able to provide, especially from those who have participated in this process before or know someone who has. I certainly don't want to violate any privacy issues that have been put in place by these programs, but some general tips would be helpful. I am particularly interested in: 1. what types of lesson plans work or don't work for these interviews. i'm less interested in the actual content than in stylistic suggestions. i'll probably target some sort of elementary audience and, yes, i know - hands-on, interactive, and simple (5 minutes is short!)! 2. what types of questions i might expect for the written response question. again, i don't want to violate any privacy codes, but some basic ideas, subject matter, etc. would be helpful. 3. what types of questions might be asked during the one-on-one interview. I know there are some previous posts that list some q's. Recaps of those and any additional info would be helpful. I'm just trying to calm my nerves! I hope to be returning to these boards in the near future for some excellent teaching tips! Thanks in advance for any advice!
I will be interviewing in August and I was wondering how it went for you? What did you end up teaching for your 5 minutes? Best, Fazz
