I recently saw Freedom Writers and was compelled to think of all the "teacher" movies that I could think of. Of course, as is often the case, when you know there are a lot of something and you want to make a list of them, you suddenly can't think of many. How many "teacher" movies can you think of?

    I'll start the list:

    Dead Poet's Society
    Dangerous Minds
    To Sir With Love
    Mona Lisa Smiles
    Lean On Me

There was a movie with Kevin Kline not too many years ago--it had the word "Emperor" in it (I think). Many people thought it was going to be a Dead Poet's clone, but it wasn't.

Wouldn't you know, as much as I liked the movie, I can't remember the title!

Stand and Deliver is a teacher movie entirely unrelated to Kevin Kline.

I know it wasn't as serious as some of the others, but I really liked the end - Mark Harmon and Summer School. The Kevin Kline movie was The Emperor's Club.

Nope--I'm absolutely sure it had the word Emperor in it. It had to do with a cheating student in an upscale private school.

YES! The Emperor's Club! Thanks. I'll be able to sleep tonight (I hate it when something is right there, and I can't retrieve it!)

Music of the Heart (Meryl Streep)

And I LOVED The Emporer's Club. Actually, I just realized I haven't seen the whole thing. We saw some very long excerpts in one of my credential courses--we were focusing on ethics in education. Certainly brought up some great topics for debate!!

School Ties... what is that about?

I've been trying to remember a movie I saw a LONG time ago... about a boy's military school. Someone invaded it...thieves perhaps? Not sure... The boys in the school got together and fought back at them... they hid and played tricks on them... (something like that, I can hardly remember any of it...)

    Sound familar?

School Ties is about a Jewish boy attending an upperclass boarding school. Terrific movie!

This really isn't a teacher/school movie perse, but it DEFINATELY features a remarkable teacher (and a remarkably bad one)...Anne of Green Gables.
