I went to my first teacher fair and got a job today. What helped? This forum! The teacher brochure was a hit.. A classroom management plan and even without teaching experience - u can still be prepared. I felt like the interview really took off when I stopped answering like a pop quiz and answered with conviction based on my experience and based on my understanding whatan effective teacher is. Being prepared by reading as much as I could about teaching philosophies and mining through all the theories and finding out how to bring my own skills to what they were looking for helped. I am over the moon! Now another test!

I'll be teaching Spanish. They didn't ask for my classroom management plan but I had one (template) printed in case. I'm a new career changer, so this was definitely not something they expected to see me have- but they expected me to know about it. I would research and find out what they suggest per district for discipline student handbook- or look into books like first days of school for ideas about procedures. You have to be familiar with this, but honestly they knew I was speaking from theory. I was saying the correct stuff versus experience in practice.
    They asked hypothetical questions 4:
1 about can you learn from a teacher you don't like
    What if someone's disrupting class
    Collaborative teaching...
I can't remember last one it was I think tell us why you want to teach. When I answered honestly, and not By the book- they could tell I knew what I was talking about. Later they asked me about my experience in front of classroom- eek... and then how I felt about teaching in a school with poverty levels. I did best in that situation. I spoke from my heart.

Congrats, Switch!! And thanks for sharing.
You mentioned being a career changer. How did you obtain your certification? Did you do an alternative certification program or the traditional route?
